"We enjoy visiting this cafe at lunchtime for a laid-back meal - not hard work here. We have been there a few times. Previous visit we had the starter of assiette of cold meats followed by chevre chaud and steak frites. All beautifully cooked and full of taste. On our last visit we wanted something light and chose ham omelettes and frites (natch!). The omelette was cooked very well.Their meals, enjoyed with a carafe of wine or a cold beer, are excellent value for money.The cafe has an adjacent car park. Or why not drive down Allee de Coreilhes to the Dordogne, park beside the river, go for a walk to build an appetite, then return to gentle cafe.When Ste Foy is bustling, and the square is too busy, this is where the French have their lunch.We're going back!"

"We returned to this restaurant after many years (it was called Le Grain du SEL then) for dinner last night. We were impressed. We had the €33 dinner menu which allowed Almost unrestricted choice from the a la Carte menu with a very few exceptions. We were told that the portion sizes would be a little smaller which seemed very fair since several of our choices were priced at 2/3 the cost of the whole menu. Actually the portions were generous. We started with foie gras (maison) which was both generous and excellent entire no mousse or part terrine here. Mains were a magnet de canard and braised rack of lamb both of which were by no means small and very good. Sweet was a mille feuille of fresh raspberries and strawberries with a pistachio cream also very good apart from a rather hard pastry. Overall a very good meal at a reasonable price. All very clean and charming and efficient service. Recommended."

"Visited this town on a very busy market day and struggled to find anything that took our fancy for lunch until we spotted this place on the outskirts of the market area.Met by a very friendly waiter who spoke excellent english who also turned out to be the chef and I am guessing, the owner.Ordered from the specials of the day board as we always find these great value at lunch time in France. To start I had an excellent charcuterie and my wife a salad. A steak hache and faux fillet were ordered for main which were both cooked perfectly and well presented. Together with a beer and coffee the bill was not much over 30 euro's - great value."

"Ste Foy La Grande is a very pretty little town and this restaurant is bang in the middle on the town square. We nearly decided not to go in when we found it was buffet service as we do like to have a bit of a rest on a hot summer's day. I am very glad, however, that we did. On a weekday the lunchtime buffet was 13.80 and what a spread it was. You can take what you like and as much as you like and go as often as you like. The choice was huge, varying from snails to roast beef, chicken to pork, potatoes in many ways and of course chips, vegetable dishes, pastas salads etc etc etc. We thoroughly enjoyed everything though alas didn't have space for desert. All this with wine came to 33 euros!! A perfect place for the gourmet and the fussy toddler alike."
