"I moved to Pittsburgh in 2016 and started working in downtown. I have ordered hundreds of times in the 7 years I have lived here because it is the best The Thai place I had for a certain reason: spices that I have eaten since my arrival from so many Thai restaurants (which probably includes the one you are thinking of), and most places have a fairly mild 10, and even then the spices are good. At Siam Thai I usually float around a 7 or an 8 and this is much hotter than most places above. But it is not just heat, it adds a depth to taste as well. I have no idea what they do differently, but it works a lot of time. They also tend to be very consistent, but I can say if someone fills up for the main chef. There was recently a 3 months period of Subpar Siam Thai. Now remember Siam Thai from his game is even better than 90% of Thai restaurants out there. But tonight they gave one of the best meals I had in a while. Everything was cooked so well, and the spices were HOT. Definitely one level or two higher than expected, but I and my wife were happy to enjoy the fire. Note: Thai food is great if you are sensitive to gluten. They are a small place in downtown Smithfield, and sometimes only a single person will run it, and they are in the back kitchen. They sat in front of the pandemic, but just pick up. I also assume that they run a family because they sometimes close for weeks/a month with a note left at the door. TL;DR This is my favorite Thai in Pittsburgh, it is a small local business, and you should definitely eat here. And probably choose a spice mirror somewhat lower than you usually do."
