"I just love this place. After a 2 hour walk on the Danebridge Forest Circular up to Lud’s church nothing beats a spot of lunch at the Ship Inn. The multi room layout, the beer garden (weather permitting it didn’t , the stone flagged floor, the warm atmosphere and friendly and welcoming James. James couldn’t be more helpful and he told the story of the Queen Mother (not visiting but hanging around the bar area all the same. The food ordered, it was not long before hot fresh dishes appeared. My dining companion opted for sausages and mash served in a delicious gravy. The 3 x sausages were wonderfully tasty (ok, they weren’t my order but I nicked half of one . Having ummed and ahhd over which dish to plump for and, having conferred with James, I decided on the beef cobbler with suet pudding and winter vegetables served in a rich gravy. Good choice my son. My other consideration was fish chips but decided I’d have those on a Friday when it is served with bread and butter and a pot of tea for a special Fish Friday price. Dedicated driver had 2 x pints of Diet Coke and co diner had a glass of Pinot Grigio and the bill came to about £45. Not bad at all. The food, the decor, the atmosphere, the flagged floor, the welcome, the service and the food make this place a gem. Don’t tell anyone or you’ll never get a table Thank you to all the Ship Inn team."

"Eating was ok service was terrible. bad vibes as soon as we got here. we were a party of two,Lots of empty tables, but we sat on a table for four, where the people next to us had placed there things about the half of our table. we have requested another table politely and were told no. If I look back now, I wish we had just left before we order something like it just put a bad ton. there was food in my partner beer, but it was replaced not an apology, as he had drunk out of it! pity when we were looking forward to this at night. will not return."

"Came for partners birthday expecting nice cosy hotel. Upon arrival, the front of the hotel is stunning, bar and function rooms are nicely decorated. As we went to find our room, we were greeted with a less pleasant sight. The whole area was in need of lots of work. Mould was covering the walls and ceiling in the corridor and rooms too. Our shower fitting was broken so had to hold the shower head, headboard was unsteady on the bed and ended up falling halfway through the night. The windows either aren’t properly sealed or just not double glazed but our windowsill was a pool in the morning and room was just damp in general. There is a tablet mounted to the wall which does nothing but face a camera at the shower which we found concerning. Just generally dingy and definitely overpriced for what it is. I won’t go into more detail but it’s fair to say we won’t be coming again."
