"The place is always empty and that's for a very good reason: it's overpriced. As an example, a main with a side plus a dessert cost me £25.50. And I didn't go for the most expensive options! The food is not bad, but the options are very limited. I had to eat there during a whole week and I got tired of it. I ordered pasta dishes in three different occasions and they pretty much had the same taste. I only tried one of the starters and it was very good. The three sides I tried were very bland. But the deserts were tasty. Moreover, there are almost no options for vegetarians which is quite surprising at this age and in this country. A positive thing are the waiters, which are very young people who really try their best to be friendly and offer a good service, even though they aren't exactly the most experienced. In short, do not go there unless someone else pays for the meal."

"Where to start! Not a soul in the Gibraltar Rock this evening and we were the only table. The waitress was impatient and kept wandering off when we were trying to decide what we’d like. Myself and my year old daughter had a carvery...and chose turkey. The turkey was so off it smelled exactly like dog poo (which my daughter pointed out) and she was entirely accurate; and to be honest we noticed this a few mouthfuls in. It smelled SO bad that it was hard to keep the food we’d eaten down. When we addressed this, the waitress whisked it away without a word, or an apology and emerged a minute later from the kitchen agreeing it was totally off. They then picked up the whole turkey and put it in the bin in front of us. We sat there horrified. We were nonchalantly asked what else we’d like to eat with no word of an apology, or query as to how we might be feeling after the hazardous turkey. Then the waitress decided to waltz off while we deciding if we could even stomach anything else. We sat there in disbelief at the whole thing! When approached, the waitress became snappy and argumentative and said we didn’t give her long enough to offer us an apology. She shouted about working there for many years and that she knew best. She didn’t back down and became very rude. Never experienced anything like this in any restaurant- anywhere! We all decided to leave. Gibraltar was always basic and food accordingly so- but this is a new low for them."

"Beautiful, friendly bistro in the heart of whitley bay. we visited during the vegan restaurant week as the online menu was so appetizing and ordered 3 courses for a bargain 17. from the starters we got the broken plant tempura with coriander hummus and spinat, garlic and cashew nuts ravioli with spinat, walnut and chili pesto. both starters were deliciously fresh and tasteful. for the net I ordered the Lensmoussaka with grilled aubergines, béchamel sauce, garlic bread and some of the best melted free of cheese I have ever tasted while my wife got the veg-pie with veg, kartoffel and onion-gred. again, both dishes were absolutely excellent. the quality has not stopped. the sticky toffee pudding was the sky and the coconut toffee sauce was to die while the amaretto and chocolate mousse cake was divine. let them hope that the success of the vegan week will be some of these dishes the regular menu."

"What a delight for those of us who suffer the gluten free life! Everything on the menu is gluten free! Everything was lovely and reasonably priced. Would especially recommend the potato skins (from the tapas option) and the sticky toffee pudding the staff were really friendly as well!"

"My wife and I were staying at the Marriott Gosforth Park, so thought it would be easier to eat in the hotel rather than look for a restaurant nearby. What a mistake. We had been told on check-in that it was advisable to book a table, as the hotel was so busy. We reserved a table for 7.00 pm. On arrival, there was actually no staff to receive us, and show us to our table. We waited a few moments, they couldn't find our reservation, and indeed, there was no table reserved. It didn't matter, because the restaurant was entirely empty, and stayed this way until at least 7.45 pm, when another couple came in. We should have know that for such a full hotel, on a Friday evening, that for a restaurant to be empty (or near empty) at 7.45 pm speaks volumes about its popularity. A waitress arrived, and I asked for a wine menu. The cheapest of the cheap wines were on sale, the cheapest at £17.95 for a house white. We had taken the time before travelling to review the online menu options, and found to our horror, that, due to lack of food (they had been so busy up until Friday evening), they were only offering the lunchtime menu. We therefore ordered from the lunch menu, whilst being reassured by the waitress that the portion size was suitable for dinner. The short story is, the portions were tiny, we both ordered fish, and there was less fish than in a jumbo fish finger. No-one came by (even in an empty restaurant) to check if all was ok, and no-one even offered to top up the wine (which the waiter had parked up 10 feet away from our table). Absolutely shambolic food and service. Just like the hotel, they get busy due to the racecourse, regardless of their service, quality and value, so I guess they all feel they just don't have to try! Poor attitude guys..."

"Great food in this restaurant and staff are also very friendly. The steaks are exceptional and cooked as you like them, with the staff take the time to make recommendations for the type of cooking, sauce and all additional pages. A little inexpensive for soft drinks, and the sticky fabric pudding was a little dry. Take American Express and have baby change facilities. With high chair. Large parking lot."
