"Crispy huh was dry and probably a week old. the dishes are not authentic and uninspired. Menu and eating feels very dated, almost like a land town Asian restaurant from the 1950s. wall for small portion sizes"

"Bistro Hulu is becoming one of my favorite casual Chinese restaurants in Sydney. On our latest visit, we ordered the fish maw and longan hotpot again (still as delicious), as well as the pan fried pork buns, steamed chicken with ginger and shallot sauce, vinegar pork ribs and cold sesame noodles. All were tasty and well cooked. The pan fried pork buns in particular, were more delicate and fluffier than the ones you get in Taste of Shanghai (but would prefer a bit more pork filling).<br/ Previous visit <br/ I was pleasantly surprised by Bistro Hulu. Though service was a bit distracted, the food was delicious. The menu seems to change regularly but I'd recommend the chicken, fish maw and longan hotpot. This had chicken pieces, Chinese cabbage and slices of fish maw in a flavoursome broth sweetened by dried longan. We also had the pork ribs with grapefruit, a twist on the classic sweet and sour pork with a citrus tang. The prawns with seasonal vegetables was not particularly memorable either way. And lastly, we rounded off the meal with a simple but tasty vegetable dish of stir fried morning glory (kangkung) with fermented tofu. Good spot for a mix of classic and inventive Chinese dishes."

"Food was very bland and disappointing. We ordered:<br>
- Butter Chicken: was very tomato-y and watery. Tasted like a tomato soup more than anything. <br>
- Palak Paneer: very bad mix, did not taste anything like a good palak paneer and the paneer tasted horrible as well. <br>
- Eggplant and Tomato: just tasted like eggplant with onions in tomato sauce.<br>
- samosas: very small, definitely not value for money. They also tasted sub-par. <br>
- garlic naan: barely any garlic on it. Just tasted like plain bread. <br>

Overall, very expensive and very disappointing. I would not come here again."

"I honestly don't see what the fuss is about.... Went here after seeing that it's reviewed so well online, was quite disappointed however. The food was expensive for the amount you get and while it's not bad, it's no Chinese I'd ever go back for. Very mediocre. <br>

I got the lamb pancakes as well as some other things, and they were pretty lacklustre. And once again, they weren't bad, but literally most Chinese food I've had in the past is quite easily better.<br>

The decor is pretty depressing and it feels like you've just walked into a dingy restaurant in the 80's - and not in a good way, either.<br>

The only thing I liked about it really was that some kid was having a birthday party and they cut his cake with some samurai sword type thing which was quite cool (but not sure how Chinese that is, more Japanese), but oh well. <br>

Seems like a place that has a good rapport with families that are loyal to the place which is why it does well. The staff were friendly....
