"While travelling from Melbourne.... Recently renovated with a light wood and minimalistic feel, this place has been aesthetically upgraded from what has been pictured here. Although a pleasant design, the tables were poorly constructed and unstable and wobbly to use (both tables we sat at, had the same issue). As for the food, we ordered some curries. One was done well, but the other, so very poorly. It made the dining experience unappetising as a whole. Do yourself a favour and refrain from ordering the Pork and Jackfruit curry. "It's true Max might not be everyone's cup of tea. I happen to like his ever so slightly over the top carry on about sending chefs out foraging for our supper and not really knowing what is going to be on the menu today. The proof for me is in the experience, and it generally feels authentic . I would like the cellar staff to be a bit more in touch with the stock on the shelves, and to be a bit more efficient at the bar. But then there's the food, and chef has come through for us at lunch and at dinner. I love chef's tables when they have a bit of adventure in their hearts and skill in their hands and this chef is good. The small plates were inventive and made great use of local produce. For dinner we received 2 entrees of ocean trout (with salt bush and seaweed that popped perfectly just like caviar in the mouth) and kangaroo (sweet potato chips were the perfect crisp) followed by a main of reconstructed oxtail (cooked almost as well as my mum used to make). The service was good, and the room had a great atmosphere for a dozen or so of us to share a long table. I hope they have the energy to keep it up and sharpen the skills at the bar too."
