"We recently visited Cow Bay on an outing from Salt Spring, and decided on a late lunch at our old favourite, the Cow Cafe. It has moved to a new location in a hotel at one end of the bay. No problem. We found it. The interior is quite nice although you are separated from the water view by glass. Although there were 3 staff milling around the cash, service was so slow that I finally got up and asked if we could be served. You're either open for service or you're not. Please decide.I had hoped that over the past year they would have changed or added to the menu, but it seems like the old one, and we ordered the same things we had at the previous location. I did get my Coastal Shrimp Wrap without bacon as requested, thank-you, but the side garden salad was awful. You know when people want a kale salad, they will specifically ask for that. I was thinking artisan greens would equate to some nice frilly and red lettuces that are available everywhere fresh right now, with possibly a few leaves of kale snuck in. Salads for me are often the high point of the meal and this one was a downer. My house red was OK. My husband's lunch was much nicer - he had the Smoked Turkey and Brie sandwich with a Caesar on the side, and really liked both. His beer was awesome - a favourite IPA, Hop Circle, on tap. At the old location we used to linger over a cup of coffee and dessert (I remember a great cheesecake,) but the ambience doesn't lend itself to that. We definitely miss the old place, and headed up the road, purchasing dessert at the fabulous bakery nearby. Will we go back? Maybe. But it no longer has that perfect blend of food, service and ambience that we appreciated so much at the old location."

"Had their fish and chips. Halibut 2 pce. Look at pictures. It's not that it was bad, but it was far from great, OK best for pub food. Server made a special drink, but it was tasteless, hardly flavored water, but did not want the feedback I think? But enough for that. The service was missing strongly, although there was MAYBE 10% cap? Once checked, how it doesn't taste again until it was time to go, no refill, never asked if I wanted to close something in front of the kitchen... I wanted dessert, but nothing. And the place was dead. I left a bigger tip than deserved... I'll take care of some really good fish and chips next time. like Jo Classes in Courtenay!"

"We 'd travelled from Victoria for the day and not had breakfast yet. It was going on 1:00 p.m. and we were hungry. It was a Sunday in October and kind of off season for the town so quite a few places were closed. We came upon Get Phil 'd Up and they had their menu listed on a blackboard by the front door and were enticed by the eggs in a basket and the eggs on tacos with organic refried beans. We live in Mexico in the Winter, so we 're usually not so impressed with Canadian versions of Mexican food, that is, until today. The food was amazing, the front poorch-like atmosphere with lots of locals hanging out, their lovely dog and the head chef were so warm and friendly. Phil mentioned spending extensive time in Gaudalajara which spoke to why my food was so darn good! Cheers to your every success Phil!"

"First time here upon recommendation of friends. Was meeting a client here and could not find anyone to seat us. We decided to walk in after a few minutes and discovered our client was early and joined him. It took a good 20 minutes for someone to get to our table and take a drink order. Not typical service, I feel perhaps this server was new. Food was great, view even better. We'll try again when in the area."
