"This restaurant is very famous and there is a reason for it. The food is perfect, it is traditional but very demanding. If you want to taste traditional ingredients like the gusano de maguey, chapulines, chicanas and more, order the “Tostada de insectos”. You don't have to... the shrimps, they are definitely the best thing on the menu."

"In the last couple weeks, I’ve had lunch here twice. From 1-4pm on weekdays, they have a multi course lunch for 69 pesos. About $3.50 US It’s GREAT!! A nice hearty soup, delicious main course, and a dessert. Plus agua de fruta! Entrees vary, but...always local specialties. Awesome people watching too! Live music also. Bring a few coins for old folks asking for money. Choose who to donate to. If they look like they should be working, save it for the old folks. They’re nice, not too bothersome. I love this spot!"

"We had seen Flor de Oaxaca when we had stopped for coffee at El Lobo Azul opposite, asked to see the carta and found that there were dishes on the menu that we did not see in any of the restaurants in Oaxaca aimed more...directly at tourists. Unfortunately, we were the only customers there all evening, but the food was good and the Crema de Elote (sweet-corn soup) was the best that I have had for three years, and we had splendid Tongue dishes and local Tamales for main courses; if we had a niggle at all it was that a bottle of Chilean Merlot cost more than the rest of the meal put together (two courses each plus coffees). The television was left on throughout (presumably for the benefit of the serving staff) and was showing a ridiculous and incomprehensible game show which reminded me of the sketches in The Fast Show which parody ridiculous and incomprehensible foreign game shows. Beneath the TV was a large notice saying “Se paga sólo con el efectivo” (ie. cash only) and I would respect their right not to take credit cards and to expect to be paid in the local currency rather than Euros, Vietnamese Dongs or US Dollars."
