"I would like to give a 4, but there were just sufficient little 'snags' to make me rethink. But 3 is really too low.The proprietor is a Champagne producer of good repute - and yes, I sampled his wares and approve! - and he recently took over this hotel restaurant. He and his family (several generations!) run this place and the food that came out of the kitchens was very very good. There were some little hitches in the service department as their routines settled in. There was also a large party in the private room lower down, so some of the quirkiness in service MAY have been as a result of that. All the staff were very friendly. Just a few loopholes became apparent as various operations seemed to 'slip between stools'. I'm sure that things will 'tighten up' in the light of experience.We actually stayed overnight in the hotel in a very comfortable room but a little awkward to get to. Built on the side of a quite steep hill, the reception area is on the top floor. To get to our room, we had to descend two floors in the lift, walk under a covered 'awning' round the end of the swimming pool, through a swing door with a powerful spring on it and then down a flight of stairs. We had a little balcony outside our room with a table and chairs. From which we discovered we were at the Car Park level. So we had to drag the suitcases up a steep hill (the space outside reception was filled with cars) only to carry them back down to the level we started at! The room walls were sufficient to feel a degree of privacy but we heard the strong springs on the other doors echoing in the corridor outside.The breakfast was though a big disappointment. Just a few slices of packaged ham, a few different cheeses, some fruit juice and so on. Bread of course, but it all looked very amateurish and with little 'heart' in it. Compared with other hotel breakfasts we have had in France, this was expensive and under-provisioned."
