"Since this branch in Tokyo, Tokyo, opened here in the Victory Mall, I haven't passed this restaurant empty. We were all guilty of having Tokyo Tonkatsu and Tempura as our favorite Japanese food, right? No matter how crowded it is here, I still couldn't miss a dinner opportunity without indulging in a Japanese meal and loads of rice!

We ordered the sumo meal consisting of tempura, chicken katsu, red iced tea, unlimited rice, and the snow ice feeling. Mind you, this was honestly my first time trying the chicken katsu (because my heart and belly always beats for pork tonkatsu), it was good too. But not so good that it can knock pork tonkatsu from number one. The highlight of our dinner was the snow ice! I really longed for the Salted Caramel Snow Ice Cream as I almost couldn't help licking their posters;) But it wasn't available during that time so we had to go for Mango Peach Medley Snow Ice Cream. Okay, that was a pretty long name for a dessert, but it was all gone in minutes. I would rate it 5 coz. The texture of the ice cream was really fine and light and had a generous helping of fruit topping."

"Their burgers are delicious and the presentation is not bad at all. There is no airconditioning so it can get hot sometimes, but I think it is not a major problem."

"As someone working in the hospitality industry, I understand how service works and how hard it can get. the place was so busy when we arrived, the hired were obviously tired and rattling as they did not stop. we waited for our table to be cleaned out of the dirt of previous guests and we literally waited for 15 minutes. the menu was given after 10 minutes. I understand that the place was too busy, but what disappointing is that the main course was served, but the salat was too late that I had lost my appetit and had to cancel it. I need to take care of another waiting process. we appreciate the gestures of the male manager to apologize and ask...read more"

"“Welcome home”

Was what greeted us for an episode of a food crawl at a hideaway in a place called Tahanan Bistro – It’s forgivable if you haven’t heard of the place. It’s tucked away in Antipolo adorned only by a texture of repurposed wood.

A massive doorway acts as a portal to an equal parts familiar and tranquil exterior of the unassuming restaurant with a large koi pond with even larger koi adrift in the pool.

True to their nature of calling it ‘Tahanan’ guests were asked to remove their shoes before entering into a medley of wood and steel. The theme continues on towards the interior and decorations as pieces of artwork of wood carvings, statues and statuettes pepper the ambience of Tahanan Bistro.

The head Chef, Chef Gino, with his girlfriend, co-founded the concept of Tahanan down to the small details of serving up Filipino ingredients cooked with Western techniques.

We started with a serving of an ukoy salad. The ukoy, a breaded, deep-fried, baby shrimp treat sat atop an array of stringed root crops dressed in vinegar and shallot slices and cashew nuts- a fancy atchara in local speak. The modest assortment of flavors were properly balanced with a good crunch from the ukoy and soft notes from the vinegar-ed salad with hints of surprises from the nuts and zing from the dressing.

Following the belly-setters were chef favorites of beef rib caldereta, and a healthier take on a Paella Valenciana.

The heartiest of the options, the beef rib kaldereta, was pleasingly breakable – falling off the bone, with just the right amount of seasoning. The gnocchi fritti refreshed the palette with a nice crackle over the gremolata that danced over the tenderness of slow-cooking ribs dressed in the home-hitting kaldereta sauce.

The Paella Valenciana was proportionately simple and new in red bulgur (a colored relative of wheat) with chicken ballotine seasoned with roasted garlic, longganisa, capsicum, quail eggs and finishes with a dollop of mango salsa for a touch of acidity within the savory tones.

We ended with a deconstructed apple crumble set around a pana cota, champorado, and an ube lava cake ala mode.

The apple puree on the side of the apple crisps set around the pana cota hit on familiar notes with an interesting portion of apple jelly for texture and the pana cota for a creamy finish.

The champorado hit home with the creamily rich tsokolate choc full of crunchy pinipig in contrast to the smoothness of melted tablea complete with a twist candied sundried herring, tuyo, and edam crisps to cap off the flavor profile.

Finally, the fan favorite, as we were told, was a purple yam, ube, cum white chocolate lava cake set beside a scoop of cheese ice cream to properly balance the warmth of the purpled oozing goodness.

Overall the Tahanan Bistro served up the senses of home done by mom on a hiatus from the States served in reasonable portions with a touch of calm.

The menu changes every 3-4 months to keep the food interesting and the chefs, themselves, updated with different techniques.

The five course meal with set you back P1,200 per person complete with a warm smile from the owners.

Tahanan Bistro is located at 22 Loresville Drive, Lores Farm Subdivision, San Roque, Upper Antipolo. They are open from 6 PM to 10 PM on Fridays and 11 AM to 4 PM, 6 PM to 10 PM o Saturdays and Sundays. Reservations are required at +63 9258801487."

"After a heavy dinner at Tokyo Tokyo, my sister and I were looking for a nice warm cup of coffee. But as I caught sight of the Soya Bar stall as we went up the second floor of SM City Taytay, I suddenly thought of their silky-sweet delicious chilled taho (₱35 each) and I told her "masarap yan!" and convinced her to try it.

At first, she was incredulous just thinking of a cold version of our much-loved street fare, which is usually served hot. I couldn't blame her because I myself was a bit skeptic too when I got to have my first Soya Bar experience at Greenfield.

But just like me then, she became an instant convert too! She was kinda amazed to discover that taho can be also delicious even if it's chilled. Sorry no picture of the chilled taho as they were served to us. Instead, I just pictured the almost empty plastic cup. Hehehe.

We didn't have to go to a coffee shop or submit ourselves to expensive Starbucks stuff as we also found hot coffee at Soya Bar. That is, hot coffee with a twist: their line of Espressoy drinks also had taho in them. Taho and coffee? Why not?

We ordered the Taho Latte and the Taho Mocha (₱74 each). This was, I thought, the only coffee that we could actually eat! We were provided with a plastic spoon to better distribute the ingredients and scoop out the silken tofu, as the tofu itself could be a bit bitter. It was delicious -- and I thought it was a genius coffee concoction LOLs.

Since it is just a stall, I thought that this branch only offers chilled taho and drinks. But to my surprise (and a bit of dismay), it also offers a full menu -- just like the ones in Greenfield branch! How come I didn't know about this earlier? Soya Bar actually is one of the oldest existing stalls ever since SM City Taytay opened, methinks. Pero hindi ko to pinansin dati at ngayon lang talaga ako kumain dito hahahaha. Next time I will order my favorite Chicken Alfredo pasta. Yummy, healthy and cheap fare. Buti na lang me Soya Bar na malapit sa amin lols. :)

asecretfanfare.blogspot.com"

"We went there at noon time, it was pretty hot outside and unfortunately, the AC is not turned on when we came in. I was hoping for the staff to turn it on but I think their AC is not on a good working condition. I was looking forward to chill and relax but since it's a bit hot inside, we decided to just order for to go. The clubhouse is a bit pricey, the frappe is good, service is ok."
