"Been here a few times, service always prompt. The food here reminds me of what we had when we were in Japan, particularly the tempura rice bowl and unajyu. One of the best unajyu in Sydney, probably the best in terms of value for money. My favourite though has to be the cold ramen that is only available during summer time. I must say I have not tried this particular style of cold ramen (usually noodles served cold and dipped in warm soup to eat), whereas this had a minimal amount of cold soup/sauce underneath the ramen and was sesame oil based i think. It was very refreshing and yummy! Though different from typical cold ramen, overall satisfaction of the dish is definitely up there with the likes of Rokurinsha in Tokyo. To give this review some balance, I agree with others that the standard soup-based ramen here is not great and loses out to others like Manpuku."

"Had the Ume Burger which was a bit too salty too and with much majo in it and Japanese fried chicken also too salty and way too oily to my liking. Surry Hills restaurant."

"I am not one to typically leave scathing reviews of places but this place in my opinion should be avoided. Looked busy with locals for lunch on a Saturday and had a nice open setting with breeze flowing through and friendly staff. Thats where the...positives start and finish. Over priced drinks menu dollar tiny green juice was likely to be when considering the large ice cube in tiny glass. The steak sandwich left such a bad taste in my mouth I had to head up to Bourke St Bakery to get something else after two bites to remove the taste in my mouth. I’m not quite certain how they cooked it but it tasted and looked boiled (grey overdone meat). The pork Katsu which we we recommended to try if we’ve never dined there was worse than economy airline food. All I could taste was cheap packer bbq sauce. I don’t feel I’m harsh in thinking there should be a zero star rating. Sorry cafe Kentaro."

"Have been wanting to visit Kentaro since they opened and when they came out with this omurice rendition it was the final push I needed.<br>

Went all out and ordered a drink - it's my first time having a houjicha latte, but I've consumed houjicha before in the form of Kit Kats and soft serve ???? This houjicha latte was OK - the tea flavour was rather muted for my liking and perhaps not quite smooth enough. It comes unsweetened so you can add brown sugar to your discretion.<br>

The Kentaro style omurice ($18) consists of tomato fried rice with peas, bacon, cheese, wrapped in an omelette and ladled with dark miso mushroom gravy. The eggs are silky, with a salty bite from pieces of tasty cheese, and umami from the miso mushroom gravy. The miso gravy reminded me a lot of the black bean sauce used in jajangmyeon. "Think about a Japanese restaurant, and think over again. you can find the classical succulents like many other japan cuisine, but then you dive in all this sharing entrees and mains delicacies, with flavors you didn't taste before and you realise you are sitting somewhere with a unique cuisine. staff are great, we came on a late service and knowing they would close soon, but yet, they welcomed us with a friendly smile and always there for us. special mention to kumiko, her wise wisdom through the plates enhanced our experience even further."
