"Old house turned into a restaurant. Separate rooms with unique furniture to each room. Would be a great place for a girls get together. Breakfast was very good and server was polite and helpful with the menu."

"We stayed at the Hotel Colonial and this is part of its magnificent interior (we are pushing the boat out here; . We arrived at 20:30 on Thursday 17/12 as the nearest restaurant (and only other seemed to be Chantilly on malecon square corner which had closed by 17:30. We sat down to a brusque waitress service although we were the only other real diners in the big airy characterful restaurant with big wall fountain to sit by trying to avoid the ubiquitous large flatscreen to dominating the emptyidh huge restaurant room. Three dining, whole .5kg red snapper (Mex$150 turned up a bit later than after my friends had their steaks presented which they started. Never mind as it was very tasty! My first whole fish at last! Huge bits of garlic and dried chilli (bit tough on teeth and well cooked. The arrachera was tasty as was the huge Fillet Mignon both 300g for mex$140! We treated ourselves to a Chillian Cabernet Saivignon at 190 which was served in (not very Spanish small glasses without a chance to 'taste '. The waitress was not aware of different grape varieties. It was fine and made a change from the beers we usually drink at meals. The oppulent surroundings deserved wine anyway, as did the food! The wine arrived on a trolley, quite quaint! A bit of sommelier training! The usual apetizers were included (nachos, salsa dips, fine chopped salad including warm bread which was tasty. The 'butter ' balls were a bit indeterminate but Mexican butter is not quite the same as European butter anyway! Maybe it satisfies North Americans (what few there are here . Everyone assumes we are from North America anyway! The meal was great in the end, the waitress ' brusqueness forgiven. We also had the free hotel breakfast there. A bit of a disappointment as soggy toast (wrapped up in cloths, works better for warm buns but they do not realise this and medium strength coffee (had to drink 3 cups to get a lift then felt bloated . Condensed/evaporated milk served in small jug alongside. Maybe better to forget free (mex$65 to outsiders breakfast and order a la carte. Still worth the visit to this really nice space!! Breakfast from 7 12 so good for late risers, although checkout at noon! Pack and check out first! Alternative breakfast is Chantilly at further corner of malecon square end of colonnades, dark green square umbrellas. Alternative restaurant (definitely Mexican as no tourists venture to far end of town is on corner by quadrangle at start of canal at far end of the busy main road by hotel (Avenida Mexico ca. 300m away. Expect no English menu!"
