"Absolute little local gem and a fantastic place to be able to pop to pick up such high quality food! I’ve been in for a quick lunch throughout the day several times and this evening have just had two main courses to take out for my wife and I. I’d happily pay a lot more in a Newcastle restaurant for the quality of the food. If you are any sort of ‘foodie’ you must give it a try. Highly recommended"

"Was impressed with the look of the place, the lighting and decor was great, however the food and drink were disappointing. I got the chicken Sunday roast and though the portions were great, the chicken was fowl. It was tough as old boots, and I...could hardly cut into it; it was like chewing on rubber and tasted of nothing. I couldn't eat more than one mouthful of it. The roast potatoes were winners but the veg was bland and boring. Towards the end of the meal we noticed another customer complaining and sending her meal back because it was making her gag which didn't fill us with much confidence. And to wash it all down, the pepsi was flat and tasted soapy. I'm sure it'd be a lovely place to go for drinks on an evening, but I'd avoid the food in the future. Sorry."

"In a world of big chains and greasy spoons, here we have a breath of fresh air. Upfront is exactly that, a clean, well ran and superbly located cafe. The menu is simple but tasty and well priced. The service is what really impresses the most, with a dedicated chef in whites and attentive servers. They are currently working on a separate free from menu, but are still more than happy to discuss and cater for allergies. I can't eat gluten/wheat, but still enjoyed a lovely breakfast here and the chef reassured me that he'd checked every item. Another excellent idea is downstairs. A kids area called Nincompoops, here there are tables for the adults and many things to entertain toddlers and children. The cafe is accessible from the rear for anything with wheels and there's a huge car park outside. The manager Craig is always available and I believe can even cater for small events such as christenings. If you're in the area and fancy a cuppa, this is definitely the place to be and has my recommendation."
