"Std Chinese Fare--a plus in SoSide. The south is full of Taiwanese cookie-cutter Chinese restaurants. New China is part of this enterprise--but they do a very dependable and reliable job in the heart of Southside. The portions are bigger at night, lunch time has somewhat smaller portions. The curries are very well prepared. Egg rolls are always freshly prepped. I love the hot and sour soup here. All of the fried rices are stuffed with meat. This is a great place for Southside. The parking is awful--but the restaurant is worth a block or two's walk. Service is very attentive. I tip well here--they are delightful. Sit near the window so you can see the Southside folk pass by. Enjoy!!"

"I’m not going to lie… I wasn’t expecting the chef to go off the way that he did!! I had my taste buds SET on eating fried rice but when I noticed they didn’t offer vegan friendly fried rice options, I was extremely disappointed. In fact, I walked out of the establishment, entered my car, pouted for a couple minutes, THEN decided to give the restaurant another try. (What can I say, hanger sometimes brings on the dramatics"

"Tofu scramble is my favorite breakfast and I was sad when I came to birmingham and couldn't find it, so I was stolen to finally find this place. they also have a series of other vegan options. Although the tofu had a strange taste, in the rule a scramble is made with traditional breakfast aromas and they use soy sauce, I still liked it. I also have a side beyond that, and they make mimosa flights!"

"This food is so good. Fresh spices. Very flavorful. You can adjust the heat level from 1-10 on all dishes, which is a great feature. Staff are very friendly and attentive. They are also helpful with suggestions. We had vegetable dumplings and spring rolls, a curry dish with tofu and pad thai. They were all delicious! They can make the pad Thai without eggs. All dishes can be made with tofu or vegetables. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"

"Shiki is one of my go-tos when friends are asking about restaurant recommendations. Located in Homewood, it is convenient to downtown, Vestavia and Mountain Brook residents.The ambiance is nice. Inside, they have a dreamy, cloud-like ceiling that is lit with changing colors, and outside their is a cozy seating area.The food is always good with plenty of choices. My husband loves their ramen, and I like all the different sushi rolls they offer as well as the Pad Thai. If you are looking for appetizers, I recommend any of their tempura items, the sweet potato being my favorite.The only problem is that nearby parking can be difficult, but with Homewood being such a walkable city, you can easily park and walk."

"Went last night for dinner and it was a complete nightmare. Server barely came back to our table and we had to keep getting manager involved. Our server had several other tables who she was also ignoring. The two other servers on shift were great and were the only one’s to help us. Appetizer took over 30 minutes to come out and the food followed only a couple minutes after. Also, we had ordered a glass of wine that took over 30 minutes to receive despite it being ready up at the bar. Table behind us waited extremely long for their food and drinks as well. Manager told us it was because he only had 3 servers and tried to excuse the horrible service but as someone in the industry if your wait is an hour that’s fine, however, it seems they needed to extend the wait more if they couldn’t handle the customers already sitting. When our entrees did come out the sushi was awful. We did get our meal comped , as well as some of the other tables around us but they still made us pay for our drinks despite that being one of the issues. This was probably one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant and definitely will not be returning until they fix their issues. Also, as we we’re leaving we passed the manager who was complaining about having to comp several tables food and was acting extremely unprofessional."
