"We recently stayed in Vernou sur Brenne for 6 nights. We arrived quite late so decided to eat locally once we'd checked in to our hotel. Although the proprietors speak little English and I was the only one in the party who could speak French, they were so friendly and helpful and we all decided to have pizza. It's been years since I had a pizza but I have to say that these were delicious. We decided to go there again on our last evening as one of our party had had an accident and didn't want to travel too far. I went inside after we'd ordered our drinks, to see about ordering food but was told that there was no food that night. There was no bread. The bar was just about to close but within a few minutes of my asking about food Madame came out to us and offered omelettes and chips or whtatever variation of ham, cheese, eggs, chips and salad we would like. There was no bread but we could have savoury biscotti. What service. Whilst Madame was sorting out our order, her husband was stacking the unused chairs and tables ready to close. Our meal was superb - made better by the fact that everything was done with a smile and wasn't at all what we were expecting. If we are in the area again we will certainly visit."
