"Had been told this place has went down hill and we should have listened. Curry was awful and I would strongly recommend giving this place a miss. Staff adding stuff onto the bill and if work wasn’t paying for it I would have been more annoyed. I have eaten at some bad restaurants but this is the first one in my life that has made me feel that strongly that I should warn people before parting with their hard earned cash."

"Lovely experience for dinner on Monday night. Very friendly staff, super dog friendly and a beautiful view. Prawn fritters and the venison were the stand out dishes for us. Absolutely delicious."

"The hotel could be so much better. During our 3 night stay we felt that there was no one competent in charge. There was certainly no warm welcome, which was disappointing. First impressions were why had no one cut the grass or picked up cigarette butts outside on the gravel? The hotel sits in a lovely situation on an elevated sight a short distance from the ferry. So in theory a lovely place to stay. Bedrooms certainly need renovation, maybe this won’t matter if house keeping was up to an acceptable standard. Breakfast was poor, cold and undercooked served by young overworked staff. No sign of any one in management checking that all was ok. Until our final morning when a new manager introduced himself. I sincerely hope he can quickly improve things for paying guests and islanders alike. Colonsay is a magical place and visitors deserve better."

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"I ordered two cheese sandwiches to take away, one white, one brown one with coleslaw. I was charged £15:30 for both of them. No drinks, no extras. I’ve paid less and had better in cafe’s in Mayfair!! Outrageous for the stale, dry, day old bread. Read menu before ordering."

"I had a table in arrived a few minutes early booked and was told to sit in one of the dining rooms. decor was a little old-fashioned, but great view over the bay, waited a short time before the menus arrived, soaked order....A short, later the food order was completed. Fortunately, it went down from here. the starters needed minutes to come, but the saving gnade was a very generous and beautifully served prawn cocktail. but the main thing didn't come over an hour. this was despite two trying to ask the only waitress when the dinge could be accelerated, she was very pleasant and said that only she and cook worked and that she had been pressed into action to cook a steak! the net finally arrived around the clock. also here the food presented was very good, but that was unacceptable. other tables also had a long waiting time and made similar complaining. the waitress said she would take something out of the bill, but after billing for minutes to arrive, I left a sum of money from what I thought the service was worth and left. the owner seemed to hide in a rather strange cabinet from the main course. really pretty amusing, it's a shame, as with a dc that could be a beautiful spot. my advice would be to rent more FoH staff, and some help in the kitchen or sell to someone who actually wants to offer a service. two stars as eating and wein were of a good standard."
