"The overall experience at Jaleo was good but we were seated by the window and it qas very cold. The cold draft really took away from the dining experience."

"I just had an incredible Indian sandwich. Indian sandwich, you ask? Yes indeed! Before today, I had never even heard of one before, and my coworker Nora had not either. But nevertheless we went with Eric (who himself only just discovered Indian sandwiches a few weeks ago) to test out these innovations at Naan Beyond, a little hole-in-the-wall doing an AWESOME, line-out-the-door lunchtime business, near L St and Connecticut NW in DC. And yes, for these tikka sandwiches, they quite literally fill a fresh, pillowy, chewy, BIG piece of naan bread (the popular Indian flatbread you normally order with Indian curries) with a myriad of addictively delicious ingredients, tandoori style. Everything is marinated in fabulous Indian spices and then skewered and cooked in the large clay Indian oven, the Tandoor. The grilled taste is unbelievable. You can get marinated chicken, lamb, shrimp, paneer (homemade cheese), veggie (zucchini, mushroom, onion and eggplant grilled) or sheesh (shredded beef). I had chicken, which is supposedly marinated overnight – and boy does it taste like it. They were probably the most tender, juicy pieces of skewered chicken I have ever had, with an absolute explosion of amazing Indian herbal flavors. They pack the meat or vegetarian filling in very generously, but also still manage to add some really good accoutrements: a light cabbage slaw and tomatoes for some crunch and tang, and a choice of their hot chutney, mint chutney or mango chutney to drizzle on your sandwich. The chutney (I got mint with my chicken) really put me over the top. Again, flavors were central here with the chutney itself, but even more so in what flavors it was able to bring out in the contents of the sandwich. My one complaint was that I ran out of the chutney before I finished the sandwich and really wanted more for the last third, because each bite was so dreamily tasty. It is food like this that makes me happy, makes a workday go by more enjoyably, even make me want to devote the last 15 minutes of my lunch to telling as many hungry readers as I have where to find an ultimate sandwich and ultimate Indian tastes — all in one $6 sandwich. "Finding Decent pizza outside of NYC, Connecticut, and Chicago ... especially south of the Mason-Dixon... is difficult. Manny and Olgas is a gem! We ordered delivery for lunch( yup still under corona lockdown) Thin crust pizzas topped with onion and tomatoes . It was delivered, crispy and tasty. Tomatoes were juicy and sliced not diced...!we liked this!! Perfect cheese and onion. We did have to put oregano on it but hey that’s ok. The eggplant parm sub was good. Needed a little less Cheese And a lot more sauce. A little dry but good flavor!! Happy to support small businesses especially during lockdown. Definitely will order from them again!"

"The food is always good and the employees are friendly and learning. I was excited when this location opened and planned to go here a lot. Unfortunately the prices have been raised and I can't justify eating here anymore as it costs nearly $17 with tax for a bowl."

"I am OBSESSED. This is the closest thing I've seen in DC that reminds me of a New York Bodega. I passed by this on the street and stopped inside. The options from American Breakfast platters to sandwiches (egg sandwiches, wraps, subs, etc) really was a piece of nostalgia for me. And one of the best parts is... it's not overpriced. I got the Whiting fish sandwich. They are generous with their portions. I got 2 pieces of Whiting fish for 7 dollars (and they added a little bit more also) which was absolutely incredible. The tartar sauce was one of my favorites. I also got the potato salad and wolfed it down. I think I found my new spot to go to. Go and support this place. I believe it's a small-owned family business. The food is amazing and you will NOT regret it."

"Yanni’s Taverna in Cleveland Park offers up an interesting menu full of hot cold appetizers and traditional Greek dishes. Besides the food, the restaurant’s awesome location right on Connecticut Avenue near the Uptown Theater provides some excellent people watching (sit outside on the outdoor patio if you can stand the DC humidity! After a late afternoon movie at Uptown (gotta love the big, curved screen! my friends I decided it was high time to satisfy our hunger with some Greek food. We started with the hummus dip (of course! which was really tasty, not too oily and very well flavored. The pita bread accompaniment was warm and lightly seasoned – delicious! We also decided to try something ‘new’ besides our traditional ordering repertoire of eggplant dip, tzatziki, and grape leaves, and opted for one of Yanni’s hot appetizer offerings: the baked eggplant with onions, tomatoes, garlic and herbs. I thought it was really great – not too heavy on the olive oil, and the eggplant was excellently cooked…I’m no good at cooking eggplant on my own, so I appreciate when restaurants can do it well! Entrees were nicely sized but also pricey for the amount of food. I ordered the Charbroiled Jumbo Shrimp, which came with an option of Greek Salad or rice veggies. For $18, the dish had only 5-6 shrimp and a relatively small portion of rice veggies…it was really good, but I’ve gotten more food for a cheaper price at other Greek restaurants in the DC area. My other two dining companions had the Rice Shrimp entree, which was more or less the same as the Charbroiled Jumbo Shrimp but served with the rice shrimp mixed together with feta cheese, and the Mousaka Platter, which had rave reviews! Would recommend for the post-movie crowd craving some Greek food, though the Cleveland Park area does have some other excellent food options. Dinner for 3, including 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 3 glasses of wine was slightly over $110 – not too bad for a nicer dinner out in DC, but still a little much given the quality/quantity of food. Parking is limited in the area but Yanni’s is right near the Cleveland Park metro stop, and the nightlife and atmosphere is always lively, fun, and entertaining. Plenty of bars around to hit up after dinner if you want to keep the night going strong. The restaurant has great outdoor seating and a gorgeous interior, so it def. gains points for decor! Go Greek! (Quick word of advice for my fellow pita lovers – the restaurant brings sliced baguette as a starter, so be sure to ask for pita if you want it!"
