"We've gone to Mr. Taco many times during our last two trips to Valladolid and talk about it frequently in between trips! As others have said, this is the *real deal*: when you eat here, you see many locals coming in with families, as well as lots of locals arriving on motor bikes to pick up take-out orders. The menu offerings are basically tacos & tortas. Pastor seems to be a specialty, with the traditional pastor roast cooking behind the counter. Also, arrachera seems to be another favorite: very tender & spiced beef. The queso is a delicious, mild Mexican cheese, which is melted onto the tortilla before the meat is added. Drinks include bottled soda and traditional beverages such as horchata and jamaica. Although the place is very popular with locals, there are many tables, so there is never a wait. A friendly waiter (who speaks *no* English) will quickly appear once you sit down. Once he has your order, he will quickly bring your drinks and the condiments for your tacos: onions and several kinds of salsa, including a wonderful tomatilla salsa. Soon after, your tacos will arrive: Delicious!! Order lots, because the prices are amazing too: under a dollar for each taco and a bit over a dollar for a torta."

"We three British middle aged guys had just seen the 40 minute long Spanish and English Son et Lumiere at the Convent (started at 21:00) and were in need of an evening meal and a drink. We passed by Taberna de Los Frailes to grab their wifi (been there for an affordable drink earlier but the food was out of our budget) and research into the local alternatives. K'AAX was non existent, Yerbabuena had closed at 17:00 so we made our way up the diagonal Calle de Los Frailes where we had passed a few places earlier. We popped into Jardin de Los F at 22:50, sat down only to be told drinks only so we upped and continued our way up, past a totally busy bar/restaurant full of only young hip locals, and found La Calzada by 22:00. A gaggle of waiters were outside and perked up when we arrived. We looked at the menu outside and it looked reasonable, although expensive salads. Beers were 30 so we entered in their stark interior with strange sculptures on the walls. The waiters were very attentive, a group of locals were celebrating a birthday with an indoor firework fountain. They outnumbered us so we were in a locals' restaurant! We ordered two beers and a red wine (55 turned out to be Spanish plonk but OK) and three dishes. No salad as we were not that hungry and they seemed a bit pricey. We also refused the offer of tortillas as we were not that hungry and usually do not get through many anyway. The drinks came, then the tacos and sauces (explained) and quite quickly the food.My cochinito pibil (90) was not as spectacular, size wise or in presentation, as the one at Cenote Zaci but it was tasty and cheaper! A small bowl of retried beans too.My friend's Filete de pollo al ajillo (85) was well sized, the onions looked a bit over cooked but it tasted delicious he said, very garlicky. He was happy too as it keeps the mozzies away! My other friends' Cordon Blue (90) was two big breaded chicken stuffed with ham and cheese. No external sauce. It was fine for him, nothing special though. The birthday party party left so we were the only people there. We finished all the food, including most of the nachos and sauces and asked for the bill, although they offered desert we declined as full. It came in as expected and we left an extra 30 tip bring it to 410. We left at 22:50 and they closed up quickly after we left. Overall the meal hit the spot. I returned to the hostel to log on and found this restaurant to be well regarded, in particular its rooftop space. I think that as we were very late the portions may not have been as big as other reviewers have described. It was fine though. Service was very good. Maybe if we had had a sunset meal upstairs earlier things might have been different. We did not have time to get to know the waiters. Maybe they had been very busy earlier that Thursday and wanted to wind down.Worth going to for the prices down service. They seem to be keen to please. Just don't arrive too late! They did not hurry us out as they had offered desert.See images of menu, good and bill.As a footnote we had been looking for a rooftop drink for sunset and could not see any as colonial towns do not lend themselves to rooftop dining for sunsets (we sat in the square instead watching the side of the cathedral change colours whilst the birds deafened us above). If the restaurant were to advertise the rooftop (we saw stairs going up but it did not cross our mind and it was dark and chilly anyway) in their doorway they may get more custom for sunset lovers! A tequila sunset was not on offer in their cocktail listings! They have missed a trick and could offer them on the terrace as a happy hour deal to bring the punters (like us) in!"
