"I was in Covilha, Portugal last week and I stayed at the Casa das Muralhas guest house for two nights and I ate breakfast and dinner both days in the restaurant. The food was absolutely spectacular. The setting is awesome; the owner recovered an holder house situated on a beautiful high perch, and he modernized the house but also kept the character and heritage of this beautiful structure. The food was some of the best I have had in a long time. The breakfast is extremely nice in that they allowed me to select from a long list of items and then set a time for my breakfast and when I arrived in the morning everything was ready. They will also serve your breakfast in your room if you prefer. For breakfast each day I had pastel da nata and other delicious pastries, coffee and a huge platter of fresh seasonal fruit. I also had a delicious bread plate with local baked bread and fig jam made from fig trees on the property. There are also many egg dishes and meats and cheeses and cereals and juices for those who wish to sample those. The service is absolutely perfect. For dinner, I had a combination of starters including a delicious creamed vegetable soup with a sprinkling of herbs and nice croutons for crunch. I also tried their Cheese crisp with was a warm local Serra de Estrella (Star Mountain Range) sheep cheese inside a crispy pastry. This was one of the best cheeses I have tasted. My entrée the first night was delicious vegan meatballs with a curry coconut coating served on a bed of flavorful spiced rice with a few purple cauliflower florets for texture, taste and color. Fantastic dish. The second night my entrée was a noodle pasta with sautéed mixed vegetables in a soy ginger broth. Again, this was very flavorful, great texture and a beautiful presentation. My desert the first night was a warm brownie with pecans and assorted fruits moated in a fig preserve and a topping of tangerine sorbet with an additional topping of a fresh physalis. My second night, my desert was an apple crumble topped with vanilla ice cream and surrounded by assorted fruits. The deserts were a combination of textures and sweet and tart flavors that were perfect! Overall I really loved everything about Casa das Muralhas and I highly recommend that you visit if you are in the area."
