"Flavoursome modern Japanese morsels elegantly plated, served tapas-style with speed and a smile. Highlight: the miso soup, the best I've ever tasted served piping hot just the way it should be. I had a little bit of trouble finding the place (down some stairs, through...a glass door, behind a curtain and round a corner but but this hidden gem was/is well worth the hunt. We'll be back."

"As local residents we were initially very impressed with Tonari 's new décor and excellent, fresh Japanese cuisine and had been there a number of times with friends and by ourselves. The staff are usually on the ball but last Saturday night the wheels fell off. We arrived at the appointed time but were shown to an unset table whilst another, fully set table sat unoccupied. Dishes, chopsticks and menus etc were brought quickly but no glasses appeared although we had brought our own bottle of wine and placed it front and centre on the table. After a few minutes a family of 5 arrived and were seated next to us and after another 10 minutes the young waitress asked if we were ready to order, we did and mentioned we still were waiting for wine glasses. Rather than bring our glasses she went on to the table for 5 and took their order then returned with our glasses. In the next 30 minutes the family were served 3 dishes before we received our first. At the end of the meal I asked to see the manager but the waitress said he was very busy so I pointed out the lack of timely service to her and explained that whilst we usually enjoy Tonari and leave a tip, tonight had fallen well short of our expectations. She apologised but I 'm not sure she understood the cause of my complaint"

"Sher Wagyu! 250 grams of paradise. Steak is cooked medium rare to perfection. Salad and chips are the perfect condiments. Service is well appointed. Would be definitely one of the top steak restaurants in the West. As you can see by the photo it was sensational."
