"A friend of a friend took a large group of us on a small boat trip to Great Burin Island for the afternoon. It started pouring when we drove back, so we were all quite cold and soaked by the time we got into this café. The staff here are super friendly and friendly and had a table for all 20 of us in no time with a steady offer of hot coffee for everyone. My friend's family turned out to be related to a kitchen staff, something funny. The food is just a selection of delicious, homemade dishes (not healthy, but delicious). I had the cod and it was great. It is a nice, cozy little restaurant and I would recommend when you visit the area."

"The Cafe is located in what used to be the 'downtown' area of Burin. It's very much a 'heritage' cafe in that the menu is a great representation of local Newfoundland Dishes ; Molasses Baked Bean, Toutons, Fish Cakes, Pan Fried Cod, Turkey or Roast Beef with the necessary Dressing & Gravy, Cod Au Gratin, Fish n Brewis, and a variety of Soups, Stews and Chili. However there is another side to the name of this Cafe, in that herein you will see portions of the early history of Burin. The walls and especially so the Tables contain fantastic black and white photos of Burin as it was back in the early years, primarily the 1940's to mid 1950's. This was when the economy of the Burin Peninsula was based on the Ocean, and Burin was the economic Hub of the Peninsula. We went for the Food but I found the main course and desert was for me very much the history in pictures as much as my tasty Roast Beef. The view towards Collins Cove and Ship Cove adds to the ambience of the location. Enjoy a cold one during the summer on the deck overlooking the 'inner harbour' where Holletts & Sons had their wharf and sheds."

"As much as I enjoy their different dishes, I am very impressed by 'the walk down memory lane' from the many old photos that you will find decoration of tables and walls. You don't have to be a local to appreciate the change that these pictures show. The employees were very efficient with their service. We had a selection of dishes, and while freshly caught cod (since called 'the currency of Newfoundland' and indicated as so on a Newfoundland stamp) is not to miss, it is not a big thing for me, so I had the hot turkey.. Gravy and dressing included.. with beautiful houseries..not the soggy oily type. The selection of wines is understandably limited. We arrived at 17:15 and were able to take a table for 5... they do not take reservations. which gave us sufficient time for our meal then a 3 minute walk down to the Ole Colony Trust Building for Wednesday night local entertainment and some dancing. A beautiful restaurant in a city with a million views and a special difference. Open most days12:00 to 19:00. Local 709-894-5678"

"Great service! The menu is small but has something for everyone and you get great value for the price. We joked that the turkey sandwich had a full turkey on it, very filling. Excellent homemade, NL food. A delicious assortment of desserts too."
