"My friend who lives in NYC has taken every one of her friends here, including visitors from other cities. I love the oddball setting of this place, down to the somewhat scary and weird basement bathrooms. This is my second time eating here. The prices have doubled in recent years, but hasn't everything, especially in NYC!? We started with rather small cups of mushroom barley soup that were quite different than Jewish varieties. Some tables were served dark pumpernickel bread, but we only received sourdough. The waitress was the only one serving that night and quite overworked. We did have a long wait until our food arrived. The blueberry blintzes definitely doubled in price since my last time there. They were so incredibly good, I didn't mind the best I've ever had! I was a little surprised that they automatically added 21% onto the bill after tax for the tip. The waitress was personable and working so hard, she definitely earned it but $46 dollars for two tiny cups of soup, blintzes and pierogies is no longer the bargain this delightfully offbeat restaurant once was!"
