"This was one of the best pre-fixe menus and Christmas dinners my partner and I have had. Excellent menu, food spectacular, staff very professional and kind, and overall simply elegant and wonderful experience. We did the Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes 5 course fixed menu which was $125 per person, with the $70 wine pairing. I don't usually go for the wine pairing, but with this and all the dishes being so spectacular and bursting with flavor I HIGHLY recommend getting the paring which comes with every dish. Very knowledgeable and excellent sommelier. He truly brought out the flavor of the wine and the dish. I would go there again 1000%. There is a coat check as well so you are not cluttered at your table. Great location conveniently right outside of Times Square so it was great for our NYC Christmas trip. They also have a semi-private table with sliding privacy doors if desired for larger parties that is in the middle of the restaurant which is nice not to be secluded. Also there is a bar or bar tables if you prefer that to the traditional dining area. DEFINITELY make this restaurant part of your NYC trip. 5 star review all around for everything."

"First, the Shun website can be somewhat confusing. I wanted to make a reservation for the restaurant, but accidentally made it for Bar Shun. That's good because it's my fault, but then we just thought that we would make it a pre-dinner drink after we were able to make a reservation for the restaurant online. The problem is the lack of communication in this place. We ordered our drinks and we waited for 30 minutes. The waiter should have noticed that we only had water cups on our table, but just refilled it a few times and never asked if our drinks have arrived. We had to ask the busboy to check because the waiter was not so friendly anyway. Then we asked the captain/host to check it. Finally, the busboy brought it. We asked what a drink was because they saw similar color. He sent our waiter, and when we asked the waiter, he quickly mowed the name of a drink. At least tell me the name of both drinks, even if we saw it on the menu, maybe we forget to wait 30 plus minutes. Then he hurried after hitting the drink name. It's a high-end bar and not so busy, so what's the rush. Then there was time for the restaurant reservation, so we thought we would pay for our drinks or ask whether it will be included in the restaurant bill. The waiter then finally said that they compose our drinks because of the long waiting period. Why didn't they tell us or apologize for serving drinks or when we asked what the drinks were? It was all so confusing and unpleasant for us. We know it's just a bar, but it's a pretty high end bar, so the waiting staff should act like it. I wouldn't recommend the bar."
