"I visited on a Saturday afternoon, for afternoon tea. Warmly welcomed to this oasis of home baking and lovely atmosphere. Tables are shared and many cakes, scones and a fruit pie or two are displayed. Prices are very reasonable, the food is all baked by, and the café is staffed by, volunteers. My cream tea was delightful, cold clotted cream and jam served along with the scone. Friendly service and the staff were attentive and helpful as I asked for a few glasses of cold water on such a hot day. My thanks and appreciation"

"Visited today with two children and two adults. Not great! After being seated, we waited for ages for the waiter to give us menus and then ordered at the counter. It then took thirty minutes for the first latte to be served at our table, the next one followed five minutes later, and five minutes after that the two sundaes arrived. Staff were disorganised, and there was no system to their working. There seemed to be enough staff for the number of customers but they did not seem to have had any training. This was not cheap for such poor service and average desserts. Complete failure by management in my opinion. I won't be back any time soon."

"This is a small coffee shop on two levels. I placed my order with a pleasant staff member. The server making the coffee was less civil. The coffee was good and the toilet was clean enough. The upstairs tables were a bit dirty and had not been cleared for a while."

"First weekend after a four-month lockdown the restaurant's outdoor area was packed with happy people. Despite this, service was excellent throughout. It was a very cold evening and I did put my coat on after a while, but there were several heaters doing a...great job. As a wimp who feels the cold a lot I was absolutely fine. We were told that the food might take a little longer than usual, and we were given the most delicious amuse bouche' while waiting In fact the food didn't take very long and it was up to the usual high standards, beautifully presented you see dishes sailing past to other tables and think I want that too My starter the popcorn falafel' was exceptional in terms of taste and artistry. We love the Unicorn thank you for a wonderful evening have woken up feeling very happy!"

"My theme for this review would be 'Duck 's off ' given our group of 12 pre-ordered but the duck salad had disappeared off the menu before our booking date arrived. I declined to order a replacement as I found the limited choice of four starters (normally my favourite part of eating out) was not to my taste. Maybe a starter with prawns in it would be a good addition or fried breaded brie to provide more alternatives? This choice was reduced further when on arrival we were informed that due to a supply not arriving that day 'Thai fish cake is off '. The owner was very good at suggesting gluten free alternatives. I did stifle a ;laugh when somebody ordered a Pimm 's and was told there was no Pimm 's. The owner and staff were very good at rearranging the furniture to make us comfortable on a very hot day and then moving us indoors. We had originally hoped to sit out on the balcony but soon discovered the flaw in this plan when the sun shone through a glass roof directly above us that didn 't have a blind on it. I didn 't mind waiting an additional 15 minutes for my cod, chips and peas to arrive after the curries and salads had been served as it reassured me that it was freshly cooked from scratch although I know it bothered other people who had already been given their food. As predicted, my large piece of cod was perfectly cooked and the chips had the right balance between being crisp yet fluffy inside. The individually requested condiments that were supplied in half full tiny metal bowls didn 't really seem to fit in with the overall ambience and only covered a third of my fish. The owner entered into some banter with the person paying ahead of me that his meal was a bargain and when he didn 't seem to agree it was pointed out by the owner he did indeed think it was very good value for everything he and wife had for food and drink. I agreed."

"Stayed at the pub on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October 2023. All seemed well when we checked in and the room, number 1, was very nice and comfortable. We were asked if we were having breakfast on the Sunday morning to which we said yes and filled out a form. Cost £12.50 each which isn't cheap. Breakfast was served at 10:00 which is very late compared to many other places. The breakfast was very poor. The scrambled eggs were very dry and bitty like saw dust, the bacon was like leather and the fried eggs overdone,hard, burnt a little round the edges with bubbles in the whites. Expected much better for a premium price.My partner couldn't eat the scrambled eggs and bacon and complained. She asked if she could have another sausage to which the reply was there weren't any left! There was only one other table occupied in the room with 4 or 5 people!!!!. We were told that a refund couldn't be given as there was no management about! We had decided to get breakfast on the Monday elsewhere which was a good job as the pub was closed and didn't open until 12:00 which we weren't warned of on the Saturday. Also a good job that we weren't looking to eat there on the Sunday evening as the pub closed at 17:00. again something we weren't advised of. Luckily there is a separate access to the rooms behind the pub but it would have been nice to have been told about the closure times. We thought we would provide feedback at checkout on the Monday morning but yes, you've guessed it, the pub was closed and no one in sight. Re the room, there was a very annoying clicking, tapping noise coming from the bathroom pipes that kept us awake. Most frustrating that all of this could not be voiced to any management. A Messenger text was sent to them about our experience when we still there to which we received a generic automated response which included making a reservation for food lol! We have still not received a proper reply today Thursday 12th October. The pub looks very nice inside and out but the owners/management clearly have no interest in being accessible. This is very poorly run and we would not recommend it to anyone. Can see it going out of business very soon."
