"Cafe restaurant on the main waterfront promenade in downtown Funchal near the old center on the busy street. Service was fine and food was ok. We had the tomato soup which as good and something described as a Crepe Suzette far from the usual interpretation of a Crepe Suzette)."

"Set in one of the most beautiful streets in Funchal, it boasts a great reputation for fine food. Apart from the lovely waitress who served us brought our drinks promptly with a smile, the rest disappoints. The food arrived from the restaurant across the street(so obvioysly just one big co- owned place), it looked lifeless sad. We both ordered the speciality of the island,Black Scabbard fish(this one not served with banana which is usual) with a passion fruit sauce. The fish was dry,the chips for my friend and sauté for me were disgustingly greasy tasteless, the salad,boring unworthy veg the sauce was bitter. We had eaten a set menu for €9.95 in the old town with this dish as part of the 3 course menu which was soft,tasty delightful. This place is like a rip-off fast food joint, charging nearly €12 for this awful example of a national dish, which takes advantage of gullible tourists. Dreadful."

"Our second visit here (with more to come! at this small family restaurant bar with its excellent local food and friendly and fast service. On the first visit we had the hearty vegetable soup, a toasted sandwich, cheese omelette served with side salad and a small plate of delicious mixed potatoes. This time it was the vege soup, pan fried fresh Portuguese dorado fish with the mixed potatoes followed by two of the very delicious small local custard tarts (pastel de Nata and strong milk coffees. And while we waited, which was wasn't long, we were given some hot herb bread to munch on. For top home cooked food at very reasonable prices, then a meal at this small bar restaurant is a must. P.S. The restaurant name is not displayed but it's on the corner of Rua de São Francisco and Rua Carreira. P.P.S. Including 2 beers, our bill today came to 23 €! Wow!"

"We went to Espaco do Andre for a late lunch; although the lunch hour was over, the staff were all very welcoming. We were given the best table in the restaurant and everybody fussed over our son, making sure he was comfortable and happy. The interior was lovely, the table linen and cutlery and the service beautifully complemented the food. The had a very good set menu as well as a kids' menu which included more than chicken nuggets and fries. The food was well cooked and beautifully presented and served. We had a lovely time and regretted we'd only discovered this gem of a restaurant on our last day in Madeira."

"My wife and I went here most days. At least for a coffee. Usually a snack or more. The food is absolutely first class and the relaxing atmosphere makes your visit a great experience. The gentleman who runs it is exceptionally nice. Very helpful if you are trying out your Portuguese. He takes the time to help you with pronunciation and mannerisms. All in all, a lovely gent. The service is excellent. You can always tell a good place when the locals use it and they certainly come here."
