"BOOOOOOOM…… Awesome.. This visit was with a colleague who had travelled all the way from Tasmania, the other side of the world to spend a few ‘foodie’ days together, and relive memories of a cookery school we both went to several years ago. I had carefully picked a couple of restaurants and Le Cenacle was the first, on Bastille Day evening! The dining room is charming with a big fireplace and Caravaggio Print which was massive, but we were here for the food, and having spent some time earlier looking at the options, we went for the Tasting Menu ‘Le Cenacle” and wine flight to match. A ‘teaser’ was presented to us, 3 small tartlets which got the taste buds tingling before things started in ernest, an amuse bouche. This first dish(s) were definitely amusing, a Smoked Buratta with Grilled Tomato, Onion Fries, Gazpacho with Red Pepper. The smoking was subtle but had slightly changed the texture of the Buratta so it was slightly firmer than normal, but really nice, an accompanying freshly made Brioche, light as a feather with some Butter with flower of thyme completed things perfectly, so onto the first course! I really love fish, its probably my favourite protein, so the next dish was a winner, Mackerel Red Pepper Smoked and Grilled, Squid Ink Crisp with Tomato Ice Cream. It was a carefully crafted dis, the Squid Ink Crisp acting as a barrier to be broken and unleash the flavours beneath, flavours dancing everywhere and a sometimes causing slight bewilderment in a positive way as to which way things were going. Very clever and very delicious. Ah, who doesn’t like a bit of Lobster! In this case with a Granite of Herbs and Zuchini. This was really interesting as there was a palate cleansing effect, but at the same time, subtle new flavours wafting around singing around merry tunes of delight, we were bother REALLY enjoying the artistry and skill of the Chefs in the kitchen and the sommelier who was doing a great job matching wines such as A Hugel Riesling, Blanc Ivoire from Chateau Soucherie and much more. And next……Sous Cloche, Bucatini Pasta Dome, toasted Pine Nuts and Basil with a Cream of Vieux Rodez Cheese. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the Pine Nuts adding texture, subtle Basil and then a ‘punch’ of the Cheese sauce was inspired, such a seemingly simple dish but actually quite complex to balance right, it was yummmmm. The next two dishes ‘crowned’ the tasting menu, so far we had been on a journey of the palate, being teased here and there, but I love both Tuna and Pigeon and the next courses really made great use of outstanding produce. Mediterranean Red Tuna, Semi Cooked, Eggplant Millefeuille Rillettes Tomato and Vebena Foam……..OMG an epic food moment this was for sure. And then Pigeon, Roasted, Almond and Popcorn Crust, Potatoes Cream And Amaretto…. So who who would add Amaretto to Creamed Potato, Well the genius Chef Thomas Vondersher has, and it really works when done in the right quantities, it was amazing. So Dessert time and Apricots were the star, another favourite of mine. These were both Poached and Confit, with a Raspberry Sorbet and Jam, Light Foam and Transparent Crisp. It finished the meal perfectly, lots of flavour and texture worked well. My only observation was for our palates, the wine pairing didn’t work for us, it just was not sweet enough and ‘jarred’ slightly, but nonetheless it did not affect the meal and the whole experience from service, the range of home made breads, the meal itself was outstanding. Would I recommend Le Cenacle, Hell Yes, was it value for money, Hell Yes, would I come again, don’t try to stop me 5 Stars.. Thank You to the team for making my friends first Michelin experience so special.."
