"Awful place!! Got severe food positioning from undercooked meat and salmon! Place is dirty and smells awful. Horrible service as well. My poor stomach is still healing from eating at this s$&thole 3 weeks ago. They should be shut down for good. The cutlery is dirty and so are the glasses, the tables are unkept, the washrooms are dirty and they have a mouse and roach issue! They’ve been given multiple conditional passes for lack of hygiene, cross contamination and not washing hands when handling food plus cockroaches and mice. Shut this crappy sickening place down!"

"I have a friend who swears by this place for their Oxtail. I was reluctant as I have always enjoyed Curried goat and wondered where do they find OX in Canada. The one time I tried Oxtail at a different cafe I was not interested in the added sweetness to the gravy. So I decided to give this restaurant a try and was pleasantly surprised. Expanding my eating choices has always been of interest to me. In Toronto we have the ability to eat authentic foods from all over the world. Golden Cook is such a place giving you a taste of Jamaican home cooking. Loved My )Oxtail and the sample of their Curried Goat as well. Thanks for a great meal. Located west of Islington 5 door from the corner. You wont be disappointed."

"Both my wife and I have dined here on several occasions. Simple, tasty food. Portions are not large but the quality is excellent. Although they look a bit on the small side, they are filling which certainly speaks to the quality of ingredients. Highly recommend a visit here as you will not be disappointed. Congratulations to all involved here - keep up the good work!"

"Please don’t waste your time reading the reviews, as a Turkish person I can easily say this is the best restaurant to try Turkish food. Hunkar beyendi lamb meat over roasted eggplant) was simply INCREDIBLE and my friend who ordered stuffed artichoke was also very impressed. The dippings we ordered were also perfect, I really regret not visiting earlier! I definitely suggest it!!!"

"Meeting friends to celebrate a birthday, we convened at Merlot for dinner. Ambience was quiet bistro. Service was excellent, 10/10, well balanced and attentive but never intrusive or poorly timed. Relaxed and unrushed.I started with Fish Soup "St. Tropez" off the menu. Tomato based, hearty and accompanied by crostini and rouille. I opted for one of the specials a bone in veal rib steak. Partner had grilled European sea bass, mild flavoured and perfectly cooked. As good as the veal was I would like to sample the Onglet Steak "a la echalotte", hangar steak with shallots which looked very good. We skipped dessert in favour of birthday cake Merlot exemplifies the bistro dining experience and was excellent in every way. The restaurant is easy to get to and has plentiful parking close by as is the Royal York TTC subway station ."

"I had the lack of food on the fresh rolls Etobicoke. It was the worst photo I ever had. The quality of the meat was substandard. The service was still poorer, and the price was ridiculous for a few extra...broccoli, I will never return and encourage others not to try."

"We went here early for lunch and beat the crowd which was great on Valentine's Day. I had choose 2 items for lunch and my husband had the lunch sized salmon. The food was OK. The service was excellent. Going at lunch is a good way to avoid the crowds and the prices are lower. Other reviewers have commented on the decor being dated but I find it OK. I love fish and seafood so I always enjoy eating here."
