"Definitely tucked out of the way, behind the other restaurants, Embers is a wood paneled monument to the traditional fine dining restaurant. It is not for the tight-fisted, budget minded diner. With that out of the way, let's talk about the food.Embers prides itself on having great steaks and it certainly lived up to that. I have my steaks rare, so it's hard to hide a bad piece of meat. My steak was about as tender as I've had over the years. It could have been a fraction hotter. But when you have rare, you never really get a blazing hot steak. It was tasty, and at 200gms, perfect for me.There are plenty of reviews out there complaining about paying extra for sauces and vegetables. Get over it. If you worry about the bill, go to Hogs Breath. Three of us had steaks and each with a different sauce. There is a choice of chips (fries) or baked potato with your steak. Both are acceptable, but not spectacular.All the sauces were hot and a tasty addition to the meal. The vegetables - oven charred winter veggies and also green beans with blistered tomatoes - were again tasty, but not spectacular.The wine selection is extensive and expensive. That said, the 2012 cab-sav we drank was spectacular. You get what you pay for and if you try to find a cheap good 2012 wine, you'll be looking for a long time. Wine by the glass was around $9 and was also good quality (a pinot gris).There is only the choice of 3 deserts and to be honest, I'd probably finish up with the main and perhaps a coffee. The flourless chocolate cake was moist and tasty, but again not outstanding. Coffee was on par for Brisbane coffee.To sum up, Embers has good quality steaks and obviously someone who understands how to cook them well. All the food and the wine and the a la carte service is definitely good. Overall it's just lacking that wow factor that would make me want to return."
