"This place must be doing something right because it was packed on this visit and always appears busy when I drive by. We first attended a private reception in a back room where goes d'oeuvres were plentiful and tasty plus having an open wine bar. This event was well handled with never an empty plate. We subsequently decided on having dinner in the main room and were not disappointed. Food was very good but it was a little noisy with so many in the room. Wine was reasonably priced and overall a good experience. That was a while ago....forward to May 2022, a change of ownership, new and inexperienced staff (which seems to plague every restaurant in the area. Three very recent visits and one where we left because we couldn't get any service even with a reservation. The food is still good but a menu change is long overdue. The restaurant is over committed with reservations which cannot be handled in a timely manner with current staffing. When it takes 30 plus minutes to get the first drink to the table, there is a problem. Serving the food with zero place settings or condiments also tells a story."

"Afternoon tea at the Pendray was exceptional! We’ve tried 3 different afternoon tea places in Victoria plus numerous afternoon teas back in Vancouver, and we felt that this was the best afternoon tea experience we have ever had. First you walk towards this beautiful mansion, which is an elegant family home and not tacky like Craigdarroch Castle. Then you walk into beautiful dark wood-paneled rooms with original stained glass windows. The tea rooms are so quaint, elegant, and natural. We felt like we were being transported back in time. I ordered the West Coast afternoon tea, and my partner ordered the Traditional tea. My favourite items were the baby shrimp sandwich and the earl grey mini scone. I did feel the white chocolate lavender scone was too sweet, as was the case with the macarons. Overall, we think the best afternoon tea food we’ve had was at Pointe Ellice, but as an experience as a whole, Pendray has been the most special. Note: there doesn’t seem to be AC in the tea rooms (it’s a heritage building after all) so I wouldn’t go on a really hot day."
