"A few months ago I visited a presentation of Ken Spector, the face and spoke person of Happy Cow. In his presentation he noted the best places in the world to go for vegans. After visiting numbers one and two London and Berlin, it was time to explore number three: Taipei Rankings change, now it is no longer. The purpose of my visit to Taipei was to taste the food and make some eyes to kill the time between meals. As usual, I started with the chic places like on Happy Cow Plants, Vege Creek . I soon learned: they serve the food I already know. To taste local cuisine, eat where the locals eat! Whatever I found out, if you don't speak Chinese, this is a challenge in Taiwan. During my stay in Taipei, some locals wrote small signs for me that no meat, no fish, no eggs, no milk. I could show them in restaurants to be absolutely sure that I would get vegan food. The waitress in a vegan restaurant went one step further and actually advised me some of their favorites except their own restaurant, which I obviously visited at this moment. Her recommendation for local food was Jīng Yuán SùShí Guÿn . She looked up the menu online and wrote a selection for me, which I could then show the personal photo of this note contained in this review. Jīng Yuán SùShí Guđn is easy to find when you launch Google Maps from the Happy Cow app, you will be dropped 'll in front. For additional peace of mind I took a picture from the outside of the restaurant. Jīng Yuán SùShí Guđn is a family restaurant: It is led by a Taiwanese family and is aimed at families. Most tables have 12 chairs and a large rotating plate, so guests can easily share food. All relatives of owners seem to work the restaurant, including Opa watching TV on an iPad in a corner of the dining room. If you are looking for locals, this is as local as it will. And when I entered, it could have been a scene from a movie: all the guests looked surprised and if a band played, they would have stopped abruptly. I wouldn't say I was the first foreigner they've ever seen, but the number seems to be limited. I showed the note with Chinese writing about it and everything was good. Also, it turned out that the youngest waitress Slash dishwasher speaks some basic English. I was appointed to the table that is also used to store plates, but that's okay. It is unusual to have a solo guest here, and I understand that they don't sacrifice 12 people table for 1 lonely aliens. The first article on my list was fried dumplings. While this is not unique, it is especially important to find a vegan version. The taste was decent, but remember that fried means fried: it is fat! My second article was a plate fried or baked with some vegetables. This had a clearer taste, although it reminded me of Chinese food, as it was served in Europe by Chinese restaurants. Again, very oily, but this is the recipe. Works great with a bowl of steamed white rice. These two plates were very full and I left the restaurant more than satisfied. The adventure was also set to continue!"
