"To visit in a gurke he invited us to eat there, was really surprised to eat delicious, clean and really enough be fed on the dish nice. the little swallow to dessert, then there was also free. the prices were also reasonable, the friendly service was happy about the good drink money."

"Just the dressing of the salad is something special, a yogurt dressing that is more reminiscent of a spicy majo, but so it can only be self-made. the vinegar and oil the kitchen is metered without having to look at it is relaxing and an original discouter sun or rapeseed oil bottle in the hand of the cook behind the theke is often enough theremund style. only that there is a small mixed salad with several spices in düsseldorf 200m on the right of the hbf for 2,50€."

"The Restaurant Mengeder Volksgarten shares the building with the Hotel Volksgarten Mengede, named after the park that surrounds the building. It has a separate entrance (the one to the left, marked Restaurant) and caters both to hotel guests and individual visitors, eg people combining their visit with a nice walk in the park.The restaurant has plenty of nice tables and has recently completely been renovated, as it is under new management as of March 2015. Though there is some interweaving with the hotel next door, the restaurant is a separate entity and can be booked as such. There is also a nice terrace on the South-West, which has a nice bit of Sunshine in the afternoon.For my dinner visit, I had a Tomatoe soup as an apetizer. It was made with plenty of fresh ingredients, some more custom to tomatoe soup than others, but all in all a good eat, topped with a bit of Creme-Fraiche and a bit of Rucola. A nice touch which I hadn't seen before on tomatoe soup.My main course consisted out of a beef tartar steak, on a bedding of stirfried potatoe-discs with onions and bits of bacon (they call that bedding Bratkartoffeln in German).On the side there was a nice salad and a bit of maiyonaise (which I requested, heck, I'm Dutch after all)!( and the complete course tasted very well. It was obviously a type of German home cooked recipe, however the bar was raised to a new level to perfectly validate it as a restaurant meal - I simply loved it!As for desserts (nachtisch) they weren't in the menu, so I figured all I could get was a slice of pie from the cooler, one of the many forms of coffee and tea they serve, or an ice-cream popsicle from the clearly visable branded freezer. I was however pleasantly surprised as the friendly waitress (I suspect her of being the 'better half' of the new owner) said there were in fact deserts to be chosen from and after a short walk to the kitchen she came back with a hand written note of 4 choices, from which I chose the chocolate pudding with vanilla sauce. Rather old-fashioned but, when correctly executed (as they did)! a very pleasant desert regardless.They did not even charge me for the desert, a very nice turn of events on an already very pleasant evening!The Sinalco cola, which the previous owners had, was replaced by Pepsi cola. The glasses are large, around 35cl or roughly 12 fl. oz., though it is pretty much the custom in Germany to provide large drinks at reasonable prices.All in all I'm very happy with my restaurant visit and will most certainly visit again!One piece of advise to the owners though, as they replaced the Sinalco with Pepsi. It would be a better choice to serve Coca Cola in an establishment like this - Pepsi has too much of an intrusive flavour, too sweet, whereas Coke supplements the flavours of a wide variety of foods. But that's just my two cents. I'd happily rate a 5-out-of-5 though if Coke were available)!( Thank you."

"We were here more often in the 90s than another owner residing here. now we tried the kitchen under the new owner. solid good kitchen: steak with potato gratin and vegetables, dessert walnusseis. very nice operation and the chef has really much audibility of crying. in the middle of the week not excessively full but pleasant . beautiful music in the background and a gracious modern direction. can be repeated."

"We were recommended to go here on our first night in Dortmund by the concierge at our hotel and boy are we glad we did!! The food was amazing, the venue lovely and the service was outstanding. Edo and his team made our experience one we won't forget easily.. full of laughter and a great atmosphere. We will be back!oh and I woul recommend the schnitzel and fried potatoes ...oh and the ice cream with hit cherries"
