"I had lunch there after a winter stroll in the lovely Appenzell area. The Gasthof is a mere 10 minute walk from Gais railway station. The restaurant is small but with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Thumbs up for the warm welcome by the tenant lady, who was friendly and efficient throughout the entire lunch. Her husband is the Chef de Cuisine; he took the time to come out and greet all the guests, which is always a much appreciated gesture. For lunch, you may choose between 10 set menus, all beginning with a soup (it was a delicious tomato soup when I visited) and mixed salad. As main course I chose a veal schnitzel in morels sauce with homemade noodles. The veal was cooked to perfection tender and delicate. As dessert I had some mocca icecream with liqueur: generous portion, but a bit too sweet to my taste. I definitely recommend this nice Gasthof as it offers great service and unbeatable value for money. My whole lunch including 2dl local Bernecker Pinot Noir, sparkling water and coffee amounted to CHF62."
