"I love this place! I have only been a couple of times but always happy to go when suggested. You can sit inside, or like us, sit outside and enjoy the relaxed service and setting. Choices of food is limited but great quality. The perfect place to while away an hour before or after visiting the beach"

"I have had the pleasure of visiting the old bakery in Modbury on more than one occasion. The staff are always so warm, friendly and welcoming and the selection of cakes is amazing. To have a shop selling beautiful second hand clothes attached to it makes it such a unique spot. Could reccomend highly enough and will definitely be returning!"
In nice weather you can even eat and drink in the outdoor area.

"I read quite a few reviews on here and wondered if I was visiting the same pub. Extremely friendly including all the locals we were grockles but never called such. Yes the menu is limited but that is a good thing, generally, as the food isn’t out of a Brakes packet and is both very good and plenty of it. It’s a shame that some folk seem to find it hard to walk to a blackboard and take a picture of the menu. Really nice village pub if you are used to London theme pubs then, no, you probably won’t like it but we ate there twice and had drinks there several evenings."

"Upon entering HCP, my hubby and I were greeted by a lovely young man who introduced himself (very amusingly) as King Mark the VIII. Hubby and I were then taken to the seating area and told by charming 'King Mark ' that we would be beheaded unless we took his recommendation of tea and cake. Wanting to leave with our heads securely attached, we took this recommendation. It was the best thing hubby and I ever did. The cake was of pure excellence, Mark told us he had freshly cooked the cakes that morning. Mark then joined us at the table and gave us a brief history of the palace, and told us about the ghosts that he often saw walking around the building. A little scared, the hubby had to go home, but this wasnt much of a proble, as Mark and I bonded over our matching dimples. This was a memory I will cherish forever."

"Great coffee and cake, enjoyed rustic atmosphere, staff were lovely, but food/drink was vastly overpriced. My husband and I were dismayed to receive a bill for £18 for 2 slices of (excellent) carrot cake, plus 2 lattes. They had slapped on an additional 50p each for oat milk, plus an extra 50p as one coffee needed to be decaf due to my husband’s health condition/medication (he can’t have lactose or caffeinated drinks). I thought for customer goodwill they shouldn’t charge extra. They only had one toilet working plus there was debris and broken bits all over the backyard of the cafe."

"Good stop off if visiting Dartmoor. Nicely decorated and room was spacious. Can bring dogs. Sleep quality ok, we were in a room by the gravel car park so with window open (as it was hot you can get disturbed by car noise plus privacy not great. Menu was ok but not a massive choice. If you have a dog with you, you need to eat in bar area (although breakfast you can take dog in to dining room Seating was a little uncomfortable here, as it’s window benches which aren’t ideal when eating a meal. Breakfast very good and served by really friendly guy. If bringing a dog there is a good walk 5 minutes away, but no grass area near pub or outside room for dog to be let out in the night if needed! Only thing to point out is CHECK YOUR BILL before leaving!! Annoyingly we trusted that we had been charged for what we had ordered we could see the bar lady tap in to the computer when we ordered drinks, but the bill showed a different drinks order. We had 1 wine and 2 beers but it was only after we had left and looked at bill and we had been charged for 3 beers and 2 wines!!"
