"Visited at lunchtime during inclement weather as tables in window looked well occupied but once inside this large establishment was empty. Had no atmosphere and was difficult to warm to the place. Decided against choosing anything too elaborate and played it safe. Results still distinctly average but prices ok."

"We visited Porto Moniz yesterday during our holiday in Funchal on Madeira. A bus took us to the other side, the northwest, of the island. It was cold and windy and we decided to spend our time in this restaurant. We enjoyed the meal. We...had soup, bread, grilled pork and tuna pizza half a bottle of white Planalto wine. The service was good and friendly. They made some mistakes with the bill, left out some items. After mentioning this they added a little more to the bill, still not enough to ‘cover their costs’. A kind gesture. Try it out"

"I’ve been living close to this place for 2 weeks, and coming here was my favorite routine of the day. This is a family owned business where you can see three generations working together. It might be not the best restaurant but it has a home vibe with great deserts and breathtaking view. I loved to come here for a coffee, orange juice and could not handle myself, always ordered desert with almonds on top."

"I asked several people of the staff what is vegan, some did not seem to know at all but they finally confirmed that the pasta with vegetables is vegan (although it is marked as containing milk and eggs on the menu). But the menu is right and it came with a little cheese on top and pesto. I wouldn‘t recommend to go there as a vegan, for vegetarians the dish was fine, although the portion a bit small."

"We ate lunch at the Ocean lounge whilst visiting the sea pools at Porto Moniz August 23. The restaurant is an excellent location at the sea pools and offers diners some much needed shade from the sun and as a result is inevitably very busy. We waited for a table and we’re greeted by a polite waitress who took our order. The drinks arrived in a reasonable time but the food took ages. My son ordered the fish burger and my the rest of us ordered the chicken burger, what a mistake that was! The food eventually arrived and looked great, the French fries were tasty (skin on) and my sons fish burger looked great with a lovely fillet of battered white fish inside his burger bun. Sadly our three chicken burgers were a massive disappointment. The buns themselves looked great but inside was what can only be described as the thinnest, greyist reconstituted chicken burger I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. I can’t believe that the restaurant see it as acceptable to purchase such rubbish (and clearly very cheap) chicken burgers for their restaurant and expect diners to accept this when the prices charged were not cheap. As a result of the terrible food I refused to tip but know that it’s not fair as the staff serving the food probably don’t decide which food to order in. In summary if you are at the sea pools and have no where else to eat be very careful what you order and whatever you do don’t order the chicken burgers unless you want to be served with a thin grey chicken burger that makes McDonald’s chicken nuggets look significantly more appetising."

"Starters: pea soup tastless ; shrimp cocktail.. to little shrimps and shrimps on toast, very tasty : Main course Chicken with a filling of shrimps... very tasty.... and beef with date sauce. ... the chicken was alright and the beef was alright. The date sauce...was NOT allright. We know that the cook used a package of oxtailsoup to get some taste to his sauce.. In northern europe we would say ´to much Maggi´´ one could only taste some dates when you were lucky to have one on your plate. Sorry Not good ! Fries were to bleak.. and wagly, the vegatables were not al dente but more or less warm and raw... All in all ... very mediocre and for persons we paid euros. with glasses of whine. All in all to expensive for Madeira"
