"We had no luck phoning restaurants looking for one open Sunday night so we threw caution to the wind and drove in to the old centre of Clermont-Ferrand. We used our GPS to find a restaurant near us, and it directed us to one ..on windy, narrow, one-way roads that we never did find. However, we suddenly passed three or four open places which was three or four more than we had seen up to now on our drive in from the hotel (excepting pizza joints). So we parked (that was easy) and chose Le Petit Chaperon Rouge. It looked inviting, lots of tables were full, and the menu outside said fondue. A comfort food for us, we were tempted. We had a great meal...wine was reasonably priced and interesting, the breads for the fondue were a selection including white, wholewheat and multi-grain, and you could choose a cheese with which to flavour the usual cheese we picked St. Nectaire one of my personal favourites. Other diners were eating from portable grills, or raclette if not fondue. These were all traditional Swiss ways of cooking and serving, and it smelled great if you are a carnivore. Perhaps the one reason this did not get a five was that our waitress was super-busy as it appeared she was the only one working the floor and there were no empty tables in the front section when we were there, and a couple of tables in the back. She was working non-stop and flat-out I think a whole bunch of tables had come in at once, perhaps unexpectedly on a Sunday and we were glad we were not in a hurry.....however, she kept her cheerful demeanour and efficiency throughout, and only the burnt cheese at the bottom of the fondue pot usually shut off before it crisps black showed her pressure. In the end, her personality made up for a lot, and the fact that she was a great waitress who served tables in order, and swiftly when the food was ready. A great find!"
