"Went to this location to use a gift card and ordered three items to try. Two burritos and a quesadilla. After getting home I attempted to eat the quesadilla but it quickly fell to pieces as the tortilla started ripping and falling apart from moisture. I could not get halfway through it without it becoming inedible and so I attempted to try a burrito next. Upon opening, I realized there was a huge tear in the side and it would have only ripped in half had I tried to lift it. I didn't even look at the second burrito... Dissatisfied I took everything back and let them attempt to bandage their mistakes. And to my surprise...THEY DID. The manager even gave me a free drink and some chips to make up for the error. The second time the tortillas stayed together even long enough to be stored for a second day (I was pretty full from the first attempt). And all in all the food was good."

"Proving once again that the best Mexican restaurants are often humble, unassuming places, El Pollo Rico shares its shabby looking building with a laundromat. Many would overlook this book based on its cover, and that would be a major mistake. El Pollo Rico is for real, their food is awesome, and although I am not a local, I suspect this place is criminally under rated by those who are. Make no mistake, there is nothing fancy here, this is pretty much the opposite of the nouvelle cuisine that dominates Santa Barbara. There 's a walk up counter where you order and pick up at the same place. But while you wait, you 'll catch the savory whiffs of meat meeting 'plancha ' and you 'll snack on the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa bar, and you 'll know this place is legit. I had the '3 Tacos Special, ' which included three different tacos with beef tri tip, chicken, and carnitas, all made with an identical balance of meat, cilantro, onions, tortilla, and green sauce. Tacos here are neither art or science they are thrown together hastily onto double white corn tortillas spilling meat juices and dripping sauce. These tacos are 'finger food ' for the bold, but 'fork food ' for those with spread collar dress shirts and silk ties, my uniform for my lunch trips here. I loved all of my tacos, but enjoyed the chicken tacos the most. Here, the dark chicken leg meat is marinated in spices, and the taco is at least on par with any chicken taco I have had in my tacolicious city of residence, San Diego. My 3 tacos were served with a scoop of addictive refried beans, a pat of piquant guacamole, and some salty tomato tinged rice. On another visit, I ordered the 'Sopes ' with beef tri tip, and I much enjoyed those as well. Here, the picaditas are painted with a layer of El Pollo Rico 's excellent refried beans, then covered with a layer of sliced crispy tri tip steak, then topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and media crema. This served as tremendous relief to my mouth, which was on fire from the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Moreover, these sopes brought flavors to bear that encapsulate what Mexican cuisine ought to be about: delicious marinated then charred meats and earthy, creamy refried pinto beans combining to create a home cooked taste that your good Mexican friends will brag that only their 'abuela ' can create. Out of the half dozen Mexican restaurants I have visited in Santa Barbara (including that similarly named very famous one), this is the place I believe is the very best, and the only one I would get off the highway for if I were just passing through."

"I have always enjoyed the food, beers, and atmosphere here since my college days. I always order the same sandwich, which is the the turkey, avocado, and cheese which comes out perfect every time. This is the only Sam's To Go that has french fries and they are must when eating here. I enjoy coming to eat here with my bros when we're back in town for an event and drink some beer pitchers."

"Summary: new business that still needs to work out the kinks. Overpriced given the quality and potion sizes. Expensive. Cost me $21 for a small soup, small sandwich, and a 10oz pressed juice. Soup: 4/5 stars. I tried four different soups and they were all tasty! Sandwich: 1/5 stars. Got the Hot Brisket and it tastes nothing like any brisket I 've ever had. Pretty sure it 's not brisket. Sandwich was premade and then heated. Tastes like it was made a few days ago. They need to rethink their heating process too it left the top slice of bread very hard and over toasted (difficult to bite into and chew tore up the roof of my mouth because it was so hard) and the bottom slice was moist and soggy. Pressed Juice: 3/5 stars. Got the Power Greens. Was nearly room temperature out of the fridge, no good. Needs more lemon/ginger for flavor. Not filtered properly (lots of bits left in the juice). Overpeiced at $6 for a 10oz juice of this quality. Overall 2/5 stars, but giving 3/5 because it is a new business that is clearly still working out the kinks. Will revisit in two months and revaluate. Hope they improve as I love the concept!"
