"Once you find this place you will be floored at the quality of the kitchen. The restaurant is part of a hotel, which we are using for the night. Probably a 3 star rating quite basic, clean, good wifi. However we were most impressed by the young chef's menu, presentation and quality (quantity too). I had the roasted chicken on a bed of greens, tomatoes, slices of apple, plus roasted potatoes that could have been tastier. Overall excellent. Husband selected the local lamb( the rack had three generous chops) on top of kale, asparagus and parsnip/potato purée. Starter included deep fried crab cakes with thinly sliced cucumbers deliciously dressed. Dessert Arctic parfait. Come and try it! The service was excellent. As tourists from California, we really struggled to find this place. Directions via the web were nil and most folks in the town of Tavistock did not know how to direct us. Obviously the owners need to improve that; but maybe not if they are busy most nights. Prices seem reasonable, wine list modest, good, not super high end. Pleasant and worth the detour if you are in Devon."

"A great little pub situated on the river within a heritage site. The food was to a good gastro pub standard. This was the best meal we had during our week long trip to the Dartmoor area. Seek it out you won't be disappointed."

"15TH March roast pork or turkey with fabulous veg at six pounds each. Plus home made puddings of apricot and rubarb crumble and bread and butter with ice cream and custard. Excellent real ale. Great service and roaring log burner. Totally relaxing, unpretentious pub with dogs. Music gigs are also a feature."

"Me and my partner went last Sunday after a very long walk and decided we would go here for a roast. The food was absolutely lovely, and they gave generous servings. We both left with a full belly! They had gluten free options as well! Staff were really wonderful too. The farm shop is a lovely touch, as was the fresh milk machine that is there at the moment. I don't normally do reviews, but I couldn't not for here. Great experience :"
