"We arrived in Villefranche-du-Perigorde after traveling 5,000 miles with little sleep and rusty French. Our first stop was for directions and a telephone at La Bastide. The owners were so helpful that we returned later that night for dinner. The restaurant is simply elegant, as is the food. The owners speak several languages. Between their English and our French, we ordered the first of our many meals at La Bastide during our month stay. Food is local, fresh and delicious. Presentation is outstanding. Sauces and desserts are incredible. Price is wonderful. Karin and Alwin offer more than a meal. They provide information on sight-seeing, shopping, cultural events, and more."

"A warm welcome, acceulised by a waitress, a manager and a cat (s.p.a )? we took burgers, of which bacon, but the slug in the burger salad was unfortunately not specified on the list of ingredients...The burger was replaced but a small commercial gesture would not have been too much.When the latter waited for their burger, the others were able to taste the Indeed, it seems to me that we were uncomfortablely installed at the foot of his carpet (sorry ernest or ponpon). Then we discussed with the manager during his phone call with Guy, we seemed to disturb him. Indeed, a small gesture of hand quickly made us realize that we did not have the right to have a small towel for the burgers dripping. 'Cause yes, we asked them well cooked, but they were bleeding, but it's just a detail. If not when the slug was announced, the boss answered us kindly: ah chhad not. "I took my sister for a meal as a treat. Absolutely the worst meal of my life and I have had some pretty awful meals. Most of it inedible. Looked awful tasted even worse and we were both sick when we got home. Don't know how many times the veg has been warmed up but the best place for it was in the bin. Very expensive rubbish. I paid and left rather than embarrass my sister. Be warned and don't go there. No wonder we were the only 2 in there."

"It was only after I read a posting upon another site requesting information about a type of restaurant, that I remembered this one. We have been here several times. Mainly for a normal lunchtime meal, but once for a birthday and once after a funeral. (A meal request was made in advance by those arranging the funeral). It is a set meal here. It is advisable to book, so the owners know how many to cater for at mealtimes. Also, you can check if the menu is to your taste. There service is good and attentive and your carafe of wine will be refilled if you empty it! Who would have chosen cold Brussels Sprouts with vinaigrette salad and ham for an entrée or duck gizzards with rice for a main? These I have had, but other times have eaten delicious sausages and a chicken stew. On all of the occasions, I have never been disappointed. This is not Master Chef, but Home cooking at it's best."
