"We arrived to Calais four hours before our ferry boat for Dover. We had plenty of time for eat something good for lunch. And we went to the L 'Atelier Gourmand . The place is not in the center of the town and the square where it 's situated is not really nice. However the restaurant is so nice and well done that you immediately forget the location. Colette, is also very nice and smiling. She explains you how the order works: she gives you a book where in each page there is a selection of food: pizza, pasta, croques XL, tartines XL , feulettes XL... So first you choose the type of food, then on the page you selected, you start to check the ingredients you want! You can put whatever you want, and they will cook for you! Collette is also giving suggestions (I forgot to choose tomato or fresh cream to avoid my tartine XL to be to dry and she pointed this out). Then she disappears in the kitchen and will re-appear in few minutes with your custom food! Portions are huge and ingredients are fresh and tasty. An excellent experience for a very reasonable price (the main plate is no more than 15 euro). If you go to Calais for a ferry or you arrive to Calais for lunch or dinner time, stop to L 'Atelier Gourmand to have a wonderful meal fully customized!"

"We were taking the afternoon ferry back from Ouistreham and took the bus to Lion planning to walk back after lunch. So pleased we did. This place has a menu of the day at 13.50 Euro which seemed good but we fancied something more for...our final meal and went for 21 Euro menu. My wife had mussels as starter and I had an outstanding seafood platter with 15 morsels it was all so fresh and lovely. As main course, my wife had steak and I had pigs’ kidneys in a mustard sauce. For dessert my wife had cheese and I had creme brûlée. We ate outside. All was excellent"

"Ok food but not cheap, lovely location. We had the foie gras with those toast things like you get in ikea and then fish and chips fish looked and tasted like it was frozen which was a shame as we were on the sea front and expected fresh for the price. My son’s pasta with cockles was ok. A bit bland. His onion rings were also ok. So it was 100 euros for that and two super small glasses of wine and a fruit juice. The view was lovely but for our last night in France the food was really disappointing."
