"Great fish -bad customer service is not first-rate. This is the original Astoria Seafood, best known for its displays of fresh fish (there was another one with a similar name on Steinway Street (some years back), where you can select what type of fish you want to consume. When we entered, the place was packed, so we ordered the bluefish and red snapper up front. Our side orders were baked potatoes and crab cakes. The few items we ordered were costly, and we paid over $50 in cash. The fish, baked potatoes, and crab cakes were excellent otherwise! Because seating was hard to find inside the restaurant, we decided to eat outside. This is where customer service was poor. We tried to eat at one table and then asked to sit somewhere else. On top of that, a waiter came up and asked for a tip from us. That was not cool, and my friend, in disgust, gave the waiter four quarters. Management should review their customer service experience"

"Ordered the mini boil with crab legs, potatoes, and corn (garlic butter sauce along with fried oysters and crab fries. The crab legs were cooked to perfection (didn't even need utensils to crack the crab . The sauce was ridiculously good; it was sweet (not sugar sweet but deliciously sweet . The potatoes and corn were equally delicious. Every time I bit into one of the fried oysters, the juice from within just popped out (not a complaint again, cooked to perfection and mouth watering. I was actually in a food funk; nothing I thought of seemed appealing so my daughter recommended Hook Reel; after reading the menu; the fried oysters stood out along with the crab legs so I decided to go with it. At first I thought it was a little pricey but for what I received and the excellence of the food; it was worth every penny. The sauces that accompanied the crab fries and oysters were also very good. I have nothing but compliments. Thank you and keep it up, I'll be back."
