"Only a couple of miles from Vézelay, a major tourist destination in Burgundy, Asquins has a really nice restaurant here. Don't expect Michelin star cooking because that's not what it's about. It's good, straightforward cooking and presentation. The menu is not extensive but there are fish and meat choices, omelettes, salads and starters of charcuterie or crudités as well as specials announced at the table. The special this evening was moules frites, with a vast dish of perfectly cooked (i.e. not rubbery) moules and delicious frites. Others had meat and fish and clean plates showed the food was enjoyed. A Petit Chablis was priced quite high at €20 but other than that the prices are excellent. For seven of us we paid €18 a head for everything, though we didn't go for dessert or coffee. Worth a visit on the way to or from Vézelay or the Morvan National Park."

"I went to this restaurant the first night I was in Saint-Pere based on the recommendation from the hotel. I had such a good meal that I went back for the following 2 nights - not once was I disappointed. Great food and wine and excellent service. It was also the biggest portion of boeuf bourguignon that I've ever seen! (It came in a very generous serving bowl and when I looked a bit alarmed at the size, the young lady who was serving me laughed and said I didn't have to eat it all, just what I wanted). The family that runs this restaurant are just lovely and friendly and genuinely like to make sure their guests are happy. They even put up with my somewhat rusty French (they also speak English). I'd go back there anytime!"

"A quaint little hotel on the edge of Pierre-Perthuis, just 5km from Vezelay and its famous basilica. My wife and I stayed four nights using it as our home base as we took daily walks along the area GR trails and St. Jacques de Compostelle trails. Our room was simple, solid, functional and comfortable. On the entrance floor the hotel is host to a very warm restaurant that offers aperitif in front of their wood fireplace, exquisite service and attention, and of course a gourmet menu of French cuisine."
