"Not other Turkish restaurants in the city can compete with this. Great quality of food, good staff and service, value ratio and of course a very friendly owner. The food was delicious and in good part. Didn't have to wait much to be served. The owner walks around and welcomes the guests to make sure everyone is satisfied with the service. If you are in the Mediterranean/Turkish/Middle Eastern cuisine, this is definitely the place to go."

City: Brisbane, 201 George Street, Brisbane CBD, Brisbane, Australia
"Empire Kebabs Brisbane CBD. This place cannot really be critique by the same means as most other eateries around the place for a number of reasons. It is the core of convenience within Brisbane, being open hours a day serving expected fare mostly pizza by the slice (though whole pizzas can also be ordered) and kebabs. For what it is, there is certainly no complaining; in a city which is basically dead after the evening, there are still stragglers stuck in the central part for whatever reason and they still have to eat. What really works for this place is how close it is to a taxi rank, which probably is a reasonable fraction of the clientele.
Inside is fairly crappy and bland, outside is not so bad. There is a second-level with the stairs leading up and a big TV playing the news. Getting pizza it is all selected and put onto a paper plate; this is at the far end of the scale from the Ritz. Again, when at midnight you are eating sometimes comfort food is the way to go, and that is the raison d'etre of Empire Kebabs.
Countless times have I walked past here, and not really given it much thought. How I got to my first try of this place was a combination of the late night conundrum having not had dinner and going to a late class. Basically nothing else was open, and I thought to get home quickly; making dinner would need a bit of initiative so I just went to this place for sustenance first. Each time I tried here, it was a pizza by the slice: first time house special.
The house special was probably the best of the lot I tried. First things first, the sheer size of an individual slice is generous. Ask for one and you practically get around a fifth to a third of an entire pizza. They are Middle Eastern style (well, the place is run by Middle Easterners) with a slightly thick crust and the ingenuous ways they get around using pork product substitutes. The house special was topped really generously with ingredients, including onion, beef, olives and capsicum.
The second time I went, it was because of handy timing and placement; I had a small errand nearby and thought to try it further for a better critique. This time, I tried the Mexican which came with plenty of jalapenos. Again, it was decent and this time around fairly spicy. On the side, I decided to try out their coffee and it was a small cappuccino. This was .... okay. Nothing that would keep me awake or have me coming back to if there was something else open. I also acquired a second slice, which was Hawaiian. Same basic idea, generous proportion of topping and good flavour.
However, third time was not a charm. I got a pepperoni slice, which was the only one left. It probably was already well heated, yet it got stuck in the microwave for what figuratively would not have heated many items up adequately in that time. Parts of it were lukewarm at best, and the texture was certainly off in parts.
In short, this place is a mixed bag. It probably helps to be wise which slice you chose, and by that I mean going for a variety on the pizza pan(s) as opposed to individual paper plates. Service can be pretty effective here, and they dynamics by objectivity are well organised. Other parts probably ought to be tried; until then, this does have its place and therefore it has its own advantages when it becomes after dark."
In nice weather you can even eat in the outdoor area.
