"I stayed at Mont Arès on 2 occasions. The first time in Spring 2013, the second time in Winter 2016, both times for business. I had beautiful memories of the monastère in itself, the delicious food, and surrounding landscapes but I had already noticed the harshness of the personnel on a few occasions. Bad days happening to everyone, I had nevertheless praised the food and the overall experience to many people over the past few years, recommending it warmly. The second time though was disastrous. The owners made it clear from the beginning that we were not welcome, pointing out numerous times that they were not normally taking bookings on Sundays and that they were doing us a favour (a simple 'no' to the organisers of our business trip was enough - we could have stayed somewhere else).The lactose-intolerance of my colleague triggered another anger in our dear chef. I understand the frustration of not being able to fully invest in your art by having to cut on cream/butter etc (especially in French cuisine) but he managed to make her feel guilty for having to alter the meal. To be fair, they hadn't been informed of her allergy before our arrival, which is something that we also take responsibility for, but the way they reproached us for it was unprofessional. We decided to forget these first impressions and went on with our day, performing at the local theatre. After 5 successful shows, we decided to treat ourselves to a short visit to the beautiful St Bertrand de Comminges (a medieval town nearby) before heading back to the monastère. Dinner had been agreed for 7.30pm and we arrived on time.What followed on our arrival was one of the worst experience I ever had with people working in customer service. Our host got into a scary fit of rage, explaining that ‘because of us’ he had to stay home and couldn’t go and meet his friend (we had been given the keys as soon as we arrived so this didn’t make any sense) and that we could have at least called (there was no reason to do so - we were on time). He then carried on by moaning about ‘youngsters’ who don’t know what telephones are for anymore because they spend their time on internet (I don’t even own a smartphone so that was quite ironic) and kept on blaming us for whatever situation he had put himself in.To this day we still do not fully understand what this was all about in the first place. Francis didn’t let us talk, he would automatically interrupt us and he didn’t either make any effort to slow down his speech for us to understand better (my colleague doesn’t speak French so I was translating but he was hard to follow).His whole speech was exceedingly patronising, totally out of order and most of all completely unprofessional. We were treated like teenagers. After days of being on the road, driving to a new city every day and each time performing 5 to 10 shows, we were already tired and under pressure. Thankfully we had been warmly welcomed by every single person we had met on our way and were hosted by the loveliest staff. Everywhere, except at the Mont Arès.I deal with extreme reactions pretty well in general but he managed to make me feel so bad that tears burst out as soon as he left the room and I was unable to stop for a good 10min. My colleague was watching speechless as she couldn’t understand what was unfolding before her eyes. The food served was delicious but our stomachs were tied in a knot and we were unable to finish our plates. We were even anxious that he would get another fit of anger if we were to leave food so we took some away (I know it seems ridiculous but this is how bad we felt). The next morning, breakfast was already on the table when we went downstairs. We packed our bags shortly after and called out to say farewell. Sound travels easily as this is such an old building so they would have heard us going up and down the stairs with our bags anyway but none of them answered. To be honest we were secretly relieved. After months of wondering whether or not I should feedback on this, I decided that it was not okay to be treated this way. Francis, j’espère sincèrement que vous comprendrez l’impact que votre attitude a eu sur nous, et à quel point votre réaction était irrespectueuse et inappropriée. Sur le coup nous n’avons pas su comment réagir, et il nous semblait injuste de même mentionner notre expérience à l’équipe de St Laurent qui nous avait si bien accueillis. Aujourd’hui il me parait nécessaire de mettre les choses à plat avec vous pour qu’au moins vous vous rendiez compte de la manière dont vous nous avez affectés. En espérant que nous ayons été les seules à avoir été traitées de cette façon."

"A very good surprise after a late reservation for 8 (the same morning). Very warm welcome, very good white sangria. Buffet with will and dish of the day duck with very good honey, tiramisu lemon raspberry or excellent oreo; all in a good atmosphere and for a modest sum. The dishes are copied, the products are fresh. Congratulations to Chief Michel! I'll try something else."

"I think I was starving so I can't help but to finish them, the chicken, the salads and the cake. Since I was with the bus tour so we had to walk further up and cross the bridge above the big highway. Quiet interesting though!So we got there finally after walking up and crossed the bridge and queued to get the food. The place itself is spacious for cafetaria. Plenty of tables with different styles. Not bad for resting after few hours on the bus. The service is ok, the manager (I think) speaks English well and the staff speak no English. The food is nice and big portion."
