"Standard cafe restaurant on main drag of Souillac, which is part of the so-called Grand Hotel. Service acceptable, quite cheerful, (though they forgot my coffee and then brought me a small one rather than the large one I had ordered - they put it right in the end). My wife had the middle range menu, which she quite enjoyed, because she doesn't mind bland flavours. I, however, found the 17.90 menu utterly joyless, and presented in a manner completely devoid of respect for the food, let alone love or imagination, or the thought that someone might be eating it as a climax to their week. There was a tourin blanc d'ail, which seemed to be devoid of garlic, and this was followed by some pretty mediocre pork tenderloin with a drizzle of sauce aux girolles, containing one girolle. It seemed to be largely the same cream and stock preparation as the tourin. The tagliatelle, again, was plain, with a hint of butter. The only flavour in the meal was the speculoos biscuit from a packet, which was crumbled over the over-stiffened panna cotta. I would love to have given these people a good review, because the waitresses worked hard and were pleasant, and other reviewers clearly like the place, so it must be good occasionally, but this is a perfect example of just how badly one can eat in France on a Sunday when the chef has presumably given charge of the kitchen to an underling who really doesn't care."
