"This restaurant, which is directly opposite the church in Montgibaud gets its name (a rough translation meaning the Linden/Lime tree of Sully) from Sully, the Minister, Advisor and Confidante of Henri IV who decided to plant lime trees in the villages of France before the...door of the church or on the main square; although the actual provenance of the tree on these particular premises can’t be assured! We had been told that this husband and wife run Michelin Guide restaurant is reservation only, you can’t just wander in off the street and having spent a cosy evening there being introduced to it by friends recently one can readily understand why. Ok, so any restaurant that opens in the evening in this locality scores extra marks from me but to find it offers some or desserts as well only serves to ratchet up their score. You enter into what can effectively be someone’s open plan lounge-dining room, a large open fire to one side gives you an immediate hug and makes you feel cosy and once seated when you look at the varied menu you know that the cuisine will be a class apart and totally different to the commonplace Menu du Jour as it has so many French delicacies on offer. A difference here to other restaurants is that you have to order dessert at the outset. Thus at the start of the evening it is thus not possible to base one’s choice on whether you have enough room for one or on what one see’s being delivered to other tables but with so many delights on offer it is easy to find something you think will be suitable! Our drinks orders taken we were each treated to an amuse buche arrangement of a small china spoon of soup, some chartcuterie small piece of garlic bread. Further to which our party of seven had a range of starters, the veloute of pumpkin was a delight and with a lovely and to me, unexpected, taste, and I have to say that neither the Tete de veau or Pied de cochon looked as you might expect. I guess they tasted ok too as our friends devoured them completely. Strangely for such a number in a party we all chose the same main, Merlu; wonderfully presented and a generous size portion too. Perhaps our collective choice was an indictment that one does not always see fish other than perhaps Trout on a French menu. Next up as is the way in this part of the world was the cheese course. Here one had a choice of either some hot cheese or a choice of or pieces from probably the most extensive cheese board I have ever seen in a restaurant with some dozen or more varieties on offer, beautifully arranged on a huge board that the waitress/wife could barely carry. At the end of the evening we had either all saved enough room or chose to cram in dessert which in my case was a tasty Flognarde de prunes, although the St Honore, and chocolate mousse deserve honourable mentions. The presentation of the food throughout was a joy and if one had to make a criticism it was that service was a bit on the slow side but then one suspects that all the dishes are prepared to order and that means they can’t be rushed. I was impressed by the choice of restaurant and thought it certainly worth a repeat visit for the next special occasion that arises."

"As we happened to stay the night at the hotel we went for the diner on the terrace in the evening sunlight. Each dish was a wonderful to see and, especially, to taste. Original combinations of tastes sweet and savoury lamb, fried small fish with béarnaise like sauce. The fish and meats were all delicious. Very enjoyable."

"Deplorable reception. I arrive, I say hello and the lady behind her counter barely answers me, probably in her thoughts. There were no customers... I don't even wonder why. Does not take the CB, we ask where we can withdraw money and we are told that there is nothing here, the ladies were busy looking for a plane. Don't waste your time and move on."

"Inadmissible to serve such a pasta dish bathing in butter as well as too cooked.Serveuse very badly friendly, would have made it better to tell us what was not serving the noon .A flee if you pass through there make a detour.The price is very high for what is in the plate18 euros....From the arnaque"
