"I've been coming here on an irregular basis for decades. The quality has varied wildly (last time was awful), but this time a smiley face. I was taken for Mothers' Day so I can't comment on the normal a-la-carte menu. I rather like the rustic decor, in the manner of a slab hut; it's cosy, warm and welcoming, and having the fairy lights on the ceiling lifts what has been, in the past, a rather dark ambience. It might be a little cosy for kids but at least they can run around outside during the day. Anyway, for a set menu, it was quite fine. Loved the 'home'-made savoury bread roll with plenty of whipped butter. The Barramundi was beautifully cooked and prepared, and came with perfectly cooked winter vegetables.The wine list is basic but reasonably priced compared to other restaurants around Canberra. Green Herring does pay lip-service to food intolerances (ie. gluten-free bread on request), but if the diner is serious about this, or vegetarian, I'd probably go elsewhere. In general, the food is good, tasty and unpretentious but, that said, it's not cheap; and, given that, the wine glasses could be of better quality (as another reviewer has commented). You need a vehicle to get there but parking is easy and free. Overall, a good, friendly local which has endured."

"My wife and I had Sunday lunch today. I ordered the Ploughmans Lunch and my wife ordered a pastie with salad.Unfortunately my wife could eat the salad due to its extra garnishing of human hair.We did bring it to the attention of the staff who apologised but did not offer any reparation. The kitchen staff did not wear hair nets. Questionable food safety standards."
