"I have just popped into Holly Tree Chippy for a couple of bags of chips. It is not my usual chippy, but living in the Livesey area and having heard good and bad reports, I thought I’d give it a try. The service was quite slow, but they were busy so this was fine, however, when I asked for 2 portions of chips the older woman who appeared to be in charge said that the new chips would be ready in a few minutes, which I said was fine. The young girl then started to prepare 2 bags of chips which I didn’t think were for me as I was supposed to be waiting for the new chips. The girl had to scrape the chip tray 5-6 times to try and get enough chips and as I was at the counter I could see the amount of chips she was dredging out of the tray. Looking at the chips I had assumed that they were two small portions for somebody else. As such, I was somewhat surprised when she gave them to me. I asked the girl if they were two regular portions and she said yes, I then looked at the older woman and she simply shrugged her shoulders. Despite the size of the portions being very small, but I thought I’d give them a go and see how they were. However, when I got home the amount of chips I received were ridiculously small, if this was a regular portion I would be shocked to see how they could give a smaller portion. The options for chips are small, regular and large portions, with the small portion being £1.60 and the regular being £2.00, so not exactly cheap. The quality of the chips was disgraceful, at best they were luke warm, with very few decent sized chips and lots of small hard “bits” of chips. It was clear that the chips had been made a long time before they were given to me and the fact that the girl had had to scrape all the old chips out of the chip tray, irrespective of the fact that I had asked to wait for fresh chips, was evidenced by the small, cold and hard chips that were given to me. The fact that I was charged £4.00 for a quite frankly terrible experience was just adding salt into the proverbial wound. I would suggest the prices at Holly Tree chippy are expensive and the quality you will receive is so poor you’d be better off going anywhere but there. I will certainly never go there again. If I was asked to score my experience out of ten, I would give a score of zero and that would only be if I couldn’t give a minus figure!!"

"We had two meals there. The first a evening meal was fine. Nothing fancy but hot and tasty. The music was very loud but it was turned down on request. The breakfast was less pleasing. We had the continental and took it at 9, so mid session. Very little left lots of empty trays. No maple syrup or marmalade left. We asked for those and more milk. Staff were pleasant and happy to check. We had to reject several plates/bowls from stack as not clean. The eating area was tidy with tables clean. But the decorative shelves and lampshades where dusty. What we did eat was fine. But given the limited selection im glad I had my blue light card discount as it would be overpriced at full price."

"I had a real hankering for a pad Thai and a bit if green curry . We found a review online and thought why not . My girlfriend called and we were a little shocked that we had to knock on the door of a fish and chip shop to get our food. But the food was spot on the pad Thai was spot on the green curry was very strong in flavor but the rice dulled it perfectly . All in all it was a great take away ."
