"For the 1st time ever at this pub we were unhappy, the food is usually excellent but tonight my husband's burger was raw in places when our sweet arrived the ice cream was already part melted, it was as if the bowls had been left on the counter served when they remembered. I know the staff have no control over other clientele but our whole visit was spoilt by 2 unruly children, running around the tables in the garden emitting ear piercing screams, maybe a staff member could have asked the group to respect other diners. We really love the cross keys visit for celebrations as well as the occasional treat but today was very disappointing."

"We really enjoyed our meal here there are some Asian cuisine inspired dishes which were tasty. Steak is nice. Service was excellent... the best part for us was the fantastic cocktails. The bartender was very helpful in assisting us to choose a wine pairing...for what we had chosen to eat. The cocktails were the best I've had in a long time especially the smoked negroni, and the espresso martini was the best one I've tasted."

"I was in the catering business for years having catered for European Union. There’s no doubt this place is a country pub offering delicious, locally sourced ingredients. What sums it up for me was the Beef Wellington how well it’s done. Not many restaurants and pubs cater this English traditional dish. The portions are huge, the place is relaxing and the staff bend their back for you. I left my red scarf over there and one of the staff members remembered me when I’ve only been there once. It’s no doubt they have built a close community vibe with their customers which you don’t find in chained restaurants. We come all the way from Watford just to have a meal in this place. Absolutely beautiful place indeed"

"Great Pub and food been many times. On this occasion the reservation had been misinterpreted from OpenTable to the Pub and our table for 4 was reserved as a table for 2. The staff quickly had to re accommodate us, which left us in middle of the walk ways which was unfortunate, but there was no other option. It was Mothers day and the food took a long time to arrive for all courses with the main course being cold when it was severed. I think this was just down to how busy the place was. The food was great despite this and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. A swing and a miss this time for a pub thats always been great. I don't normally write reviews, but I thought this might be helpful to both OpenTable and The Barge as the loss of reservation put them under greater pressure on this busy day."
