"Sometimes you don't necessarily rate a restaurant for the food as it will. In addition to the incredible location of this restaurant in the authentic historic town of Foroglio in Valley Balvano. There are many ways to evaluate a restaurant and we were able to truly absorb the surrounding landscape In some cases it was no matter that the charcuterie was not great from a personal taste of ham and salami were much too fat. Unfortunately the carrot cake, although you could taste the carrot, it was much too dry Nevertheless, I would still recommend this restaurant because in some cases we had more bites than any material dishes."

"Enjoy great rustic food in this genuine Ticino grotto far off the beaten track. Grotti, found in many parts of Italian-speaking Switzland, are simple taverns in quiet, usually fairly remote locations – often situated on the edge of a wood, thus offering some welcome natural shade from the heat of the summer – with solid granite tables under chestnut trees, as well as benches under shelter. Food is cooked on open fires and on an open charcoal grill, and the day we visited this included stews, barbecued spare ribs, local sausages, polenta and risotto, as well as desserts and a choice of cheeses, which can be washed down with local wine, micro beers, or homemade lemonade. All reasonably priced. A small range of vegetarian dishes are available as well. On some evenings there is also musical entertainment. We very much enjoyed our visit, and the welcome was very friendly, but better instructions how to get there might be a good idea, as it took us a while to find this little gem of a place. If you come by car it is probably easy enough to find it if you put in the precise address into your satnav, i.e. via al grotti 17, 6675 Cevio, and parking space is provided outside the grotto. If you come by bus, as we did, the Grotto's Facebook page says take the 315 bus from Locarno rail station in the direction of the Maggia valley and get off at the Cevio Centro scolastico stop, and then adds, loosely translated from the German, “where you’ll see a sign for directions to the grotto and after 40m you‘ll be at our door.” Well, not quite! And certainly not 40m. More precise instructions might be these: take the 315 bus in the direction of Cavergno (an hourly service from Locarno station , a 44 minutes ride up the attractive Maggia valley, and get off at a Cevio Centro. Cross the road at the bus stop and then walk up the main road past the local Co-op supermarket, and immediately turn left into a small road. Walk up this road for about 200m until you get to a T-junction, keep right and keep going on this road for another 200m or so, and you’ll find the grotto on your left at via al grotti 17. Open from May to end of September each year, closed on Mondays (and also closed in bad weather conditions; if in doubt phone or check their Facebook page."
