"When you first approach La Voile Blanche, set on an unspoilt expansive beach lapped by the temperate waters of the Med, you sense that you are in for a bit of a treat. Despite the restaurant essentially being a large wooden cabin raised up about...a metre off the beach you enter a stylish, tranquil environment with jazz-funk being played at just the right volume. It did take a few minutes to be seated but we were on holiday and there was no rush. We decided to sit inside the restaurant and took in the views out over the beach and sea beyond. We could have sat outside but it was a hot day and we wanted to give our boys a break from the sun. We ordered drinks and then perused the menu, which was limited (but not in a bad way I hate being presented with hundreds of options in some UK restaurants and you know it's all food service companies providing the meals). We went straight for main courses, which was a choice of fish or meat dishes. Me and the boys went for the burger and my wife for a fish dish (very similar to monk fish) and presented on a vertical skewer, which was the restaurant's house special. A burger in France sounds a bit of a heathen or typican English choice, but it was a sumptuous home-made burger in a very good bread roll with cheese, bacon and onion. The meat was cooked rare, as requested, and absolutely melted in the mouth. We followed the meal with coffee and asked for the bill. At almost euros it wasn't a cheap lunch, but it was worth every penny. The service was friendly and professional, and by UK standards it was relatively slow, but this wasn't an issue. The leisurely lunch in France is alive and well, and this wasn't just because we were by the beach. Now back in the UK, I know that going to a beachside cafe here is never going to be the same."
